About me

Hello my name is Gemma and welcome to my Counsellor Directory Profile.

We can all feel overwhelmed at times with what life can put in our path.  Sometimes this is a specific life issue such as problems with relationships or life events causing high levels of stress that is difficult to manage, sometimes resulting in behaviours that are unhelpful or harmful.  Sometimes we realise that we are repeating negative patterns in our lives but we can't seem to find a way to break them or we become stuck, feeling like something is blocked and we don't know how to move forward.  Counselling can offer a safe, accepting and confidential space to explore your emotional difficulties and life issues, gain new insights and from this awareness support you to adapt or make changes that are right for you.  Counselling also provides an opportunity to develop different ways of understanding and managing your thought processes, resulting in you feeling calmer and in control.

I have been practising counselling now for over 10 years and I also provide Clinical Supervision for other counsellors.  Throughout my practice I have been fortunate to experience working as a therapist in a range of sectors and settings such as: private, voluntary, community, post-primary schools, further education colleges, juvenile justice centre and helplines with a diverse range of issues.  I specialise in working with anxiety, panic attacks, stress management, depression, low self-esteem, relationship issues, trauma, addictions, work related issues/stress, suicidal thoughts and self-harm.

My practice is informed by my professional body's Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling, this is The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  Full details of these are available on their website www.bacp.co.uk. My accreditation and registration status can also be verified by checking their online register of approved therapists.

Please feel free to contact me and we can discuss further what my service can offer and if it meets your personal needs at this time.  If it does not I will happily signpost/provide you with information of more suitable services.  I offer daytime and evening sessions.
