About me

Hi I am a BABCP Accredited Psychological Therapist specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based in Tiptree Colchester. I have been working with patients since qualifying as a person centred counsellor in 2002. I have since completed and gained accreditation as a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist.

I specialise in CBT and have extensive experience working with a range of mental health difficulties in a variety of professional services.

I am able to offer bespoke therapy solutions to a wide range a problems including depression and anxiety disorders including panic, generalised anxiety disorder, social anxiety, Health Anxiety, OCD and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) . I have extensive experience working with anger, interpersonal conflict / relationship issues, low self esteem and confidence.

I am also able to offer psychological support and strategies to individuals experiencing Eating disorders and Body dysmorphic disorder.

Finding the right therapist is paramount to gaining a positive outcome, I believe that I am able to offer a safe and friendly environment in which to explore the mechanisms that maintain common problems and then help people to break free from unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving.

I aim to offer flexible appointment sessions where possible including evening sessions.

Sessions are usually offered face to face but telephone appointments can be arranged.

Training, qualifications & experience

Psychology and Management Degree
Advanced Diploma in Person Centred Counselling
Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies (CBT)

I started working as a therapist in 2002 when I completed my Person Centred Counselling qualification. I started working with patients referred by psychiatrists whom required long term psychological intervention.
I then began working in addiction services within the NHS where I worked with and co-ordinated care of patients with chronic addiction offering psychological interventions.

I have since completed a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies (Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy) and gained experience working with patients in crisis management and acute in-patient psychiatric services.

I am accredited by the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists (BABCP).

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is different to counselling. It can be described as an active approach where therapist and client work collaboratively together. The idea is to help people to manage their problems by gaining insight and learning techniques so they can cope with their problems themselves. There has been more research done on CBT than any other form of counselling and psychotherapy and it is clear that CBT is the most effective.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
