About me

I am an integrative trained counsellor, which means that I have been trained in several different key psychological philosophies (for those that like the information; Psychodynamic, Humanistic and CBT).

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and work to the BACP code of ethics

My beginnings in the field of psychology started back in 1999, when I studied at Swansea University for a BSc in Psychology. I eventually graduated with a 2:1. After this I found work in the ‘field’ as a drug and alcohol worker. During this time I began working with highly vulnerable Homeless people and learnt about the debilitating effects of issues such as; loss of self-esteem, depression, anxiety and grief to name but a few of the problems that many of us are faced with in society today.

My next role was working in a Rehabilitation unit for people suffering from Alcoholism. It was during this time that I began my studies in counselling. I completed a Certificate in Humanistic Counselling, before achieving a Post Graduate Diploma in Integrative Counselling. Recently I have been working with people and families with Learning Disabilities. Even more recently I have begun working in local schools as a schools counsellor and working with young people in the valleys areas, so my experiences are wide ranging.

My method of working is collaborative, meaning, I will always work in collaboration with you, as I believe you know your own needs far better than I could!!
Working in this way offers you the chance to create your own goals and to design your own future, and by talking it through and structuring it at your own pace.

I do not work to any fixed time programme of counselling. It is an open-ended process. It is primarily up to you as clients to decide how long counselling should continue. I will ensure that we regularly review the usefulness of counselling to you, and will help you to establish clear aims and objectives.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

CONFIDENTIALITY

I work to a strict code of ethics and keep all client information confidential as outlined by the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). What is said during the session will remain in the session. I will keep notes of our sessions as these benefit my practice and your therapy. At the end of our time all notes will be destroyed.

If for any chance we should meet outside of the Therapeutic arena I will not greet you. I am not being rude, this is because for some their therapy is a private thing and they don’t wish others to know that they are receiving counselling. However, if you choose to speak to me I will always reply.

My practice is in a very quiet area and offers you complete discretion and privacy, whilst also providing a warm, comfortable, caring environment.  I look forward to hearing from you.
