Gaina Macdonald. Dip.Couns. Registered Member MBACP
I am a mobile counsellor who will come to you and see you in your own home.
Are you feeling sad, depressed or anxious? Maybe you know why, maybe you don't, either way I can help. By getting to the route of what's causing it, I can help you deal with it in a safe place. Ultimately enabling you to move beyond it and start to feel better.
Life can be hard and sometimes overwhelming, although I do believe we all have within ourselves the ability to cope with, what life throws at us. A little help in finding this ability and/or developing coping strategies can be greatly beneficial. Which is where counselling with me comes in.
I offer a confidential, professional counselling service dealing with all kinds of emotional issues from an integrative, person centred approach. I work with adults on an individual basis, as well as couples.
As your counsellor I will listen to you and accept you in a non judgmental way. Providing you with the opportunity to unburden yourself and make sense of what you are feeling. For you to do this it is important you find the right counsellor with whom you feel calm and relaxed, which is what I aim to provide. Once you feel relaxed, and able to open up to me that is when therapy can begin.
Training, qualifications & experience
Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Skills
Level 2 Counselling Concepts
My fundamental training has been in the Person Centered Approach to counselling which I now integrate with other theories through my continuing professional development. See below for additional training.
I have previously worked for a mental health charity and have extensive experience working with various forms of depression from mild to severe as well as Bipolar Disorder (manic depression), Post Natal Depression and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Along with insights into stress, anxiety and panic attacks, I have a broad knowledge of grief and bereavement.
I have also worked closely with clients affected by domestic abuse, substance misuse issues and sexual abuse. Working with the family members of addicts and abuse victims is also something which I have a lot of experience of, and feel passionate about as the impact on partners and parents is sometimes forgotten.
Due to past experience with Autism and Aspergers I have a particular interest in counselling adults on the Autism Spectrum. I feel the person centred approach to counselling blends itself perfectly to working with Autism.
I am able to offer help to individuals as well as couples experiencing relationship issues. Either by helping to resolve conflict or by helping in coming to terms with the end of a relationship.
