About me

I believe that counselling and psychotherapy in a warm, understanding and empathic therapeutic relationship can help you to identify and change areas of your life that are perhaps causing you distress, anxiety, depression and other related difficulties. I can offer an atmosphere of acceptance and a genuine empathic understanding of the problems that you are faced with and together we can explore your past and current experiences and how they may be impacting your life and by doing so gain some new insight into how to live a more fulfilling, balanced life in the present. I also use mindfulness as part of my practice ,not only to help treat anxiety and depression but also as a general aid to living a more peaceful and contented life in the here and now.

I use the Relational Integrative model of Counselling in my work, I draw on several different therapeutic theories to inform my practice. Cognitive behavioural, which focuses on changing our thought patterns to change the way that we feel, Psychodynamic therapy which explores our past experience and how it impacts the present and Person centred models being the most well known. I try to tailor my therapeutic style to fit your personality and individual needs. Always keeping your goals at the centre of our work together.

Client testimonial.

"Experience of therapy - was very positive. Felt quite nervous about doing it at all at first, however talking through issues was very cathartic and, although it dredged up old memories I had tried to forget about, I came away each week feeling much happier and 'lighter'. Although you never actually gave 'advice' on what to do as such, you had a really clever way of nudging me towards a different way of perceiving things and I somehow reached solutions and different ways of doing things without really knowing how I ended up changing my mindset!

New awareness - lots! Came away with a new perception of my relationship with my dad and after feeling v guilty for so many years, it made me realise that I had no need to feel that way. Also, am now able to 'check' myself when issues arise in my marriage and instead of shutting down and not speaking about things, I am able to talk through problems (most of the time!) without disagreements spiralling into a huge row. Definitely have a healthier and more positive relationship with my husband as a result.

Thank you so much for all the help you gave me - it has made a huge difference to my relationship with my dad, my husband and my general sense of happiness as a result."

Experience of therapy
I always felt very supported, encouraged and heard, you listened and just let me talk. It was non judgemental
which was a huge relief to me. I was always able to freely express how I felt, speak about my thoughts and my emotions, your trust was unquestionable and your empathy warm and real. I always left the sessions feeling relaxed and comfortable.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
