About me

My name is Fran Hicks and I am an experienced female counsellor working from my home just outside a small village four miles from Hereford and ten miles from Ledbury. The location and the room that I use are warm, private and comfortable with ample off road parking.

I work from a person centred approach but use elements that are individual and appropriate to fit with the client's needs and issues. A good relationship  between counsellor and yourself is in my view essential to the success of therapy.  Vital to establishing a positive therapeutic relationship is the development of trust and respect. To achieve this I work from a non-judgemental point of view allowing  you  the freedom to explore any issues that you  may wish to bring to counselling. I I work with people of all ages and have considerable experience working with Children and Young People. I work both short term and open ended. I also offer counselling via  Whatsapp and  telephone as well as face to face.

I gained my Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy in June 2003 and I am a registered member of The British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists as well as a Children and Young People Member . Since gaining my Diploma I have had training  in many aspects of issues that may affect a person including  bereavement, self harm, eating disorders,  relationships, separation/divorce, abuse, drugs, post traumatic stress disorder, anxiety/depression, low self esteem, bullying and other issues connecting to school/education.

Theories that I have trained in since 2003 include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focus Brief Therapy as well as obtaining my British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Certificate of Proficiency.

If you are considering counselling and are interested please telephone or email me for  a return call or email. My contact details are 01432 850066, 07776188610 or email fran@hal.uk.com. and I look forward to hearing from you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

When I work

I try to work in a way that allows you to find a time that is suitable to you, which includes some evenings and weekends face to face and online .

Further information

I work in an integrative way which involves using a variety of therapies. The main basis is person centred which focuses on you as the expert on yourself. To achieve this I work by being led by you as to the issues that are impacting you as well as the positives in you and your life. I work non judgementally with elements of other therapies for example CBT which involves thoughts and feelings and aspects of change. Looking at conscious and subconscious thoughts as well, in order to make sense of them.

I have a small elderly dog called Coco who meets my clients at the door as well as a female tabby cat who may or may not as is the way of cats!

The room is warm and comfortable according to my clients and there is parking outside the front of my home off a small farm lane adjacent to the fields where there are lambs in the Spring.

Sadly there are three steps from my drive to the front door so it isn't wheelchair friendly but there are planters alongside the  steps to use as  handrails.

Please feel free to ask any questions that you might think of and I look forward to meeting you if you choose therapy with me.
