About me

Why Therapy with Fiona-Jane?

People come to therapy with me for many reasons. I have worked with individuals, from different backgrounds and cultures, suffering from overwhelming anxieties, despair and depression. Living like this can often be  linked with self criticism and criticism towards others.  People may experience low self esteem, shame and isolation. They may not not understand their feelings and behaviours. People may begin to question why relationship patterns, including how they relate to themselves and others persist. They may feel very stuck.

Grief arising from a loss, such as a traumatic bereavement, including baby, child, parent, friend, colleague, termination, miscarriage, homicide, suicide and pet may too evoke a wide range of difficult feelings making it hard to cope.

In my experience, therapy can help un-addressed difficulties feel more manageable. It can be a catalyst for growth and healing. Whilst the facts of the past cannot be changed, your story can be updated in therapy.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a UKCP registered accredited  psychotherapist and a Registered Member of BACP as a Registered counsellor. I have worked as a psychotherapist and counsellor with adults in the NHS and charity sector. Currently, I work clinically  in industry for an employment assistance provider (EAP) and in private practice.

I trained as an integrative psychotherapist in the UK. Psychodynamic- Relational- Existential, and trauma specific theories help to inform my integrative practice.

In 2012, I completed specialist training in loss, complex grief and traumatic bereavement.

From consulting rooms in Battersea and Wimbledon, London. I offer both psychotherapy and counselling. Sessions  are 50 minutes at the same time usually each week.

Psychotherapy is often a wide ranging and longer process, than counselling, that aims for deeper changes.

Counselling focuses on specific issues/problems and tends to be a shorter term process.

I offer psychotherapy and counselling to individual adults that is inclusive of: gender status, sexual orientation,  religion, culture and race.

You are welcome to contact  me to set up an initial session to discuss working  together.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
