I offer an integrative approach to counselling. I believe that everyone is unique, and as a practitioner this is at the forefront of my mind. I therefore draw from person-centred, transactional analysis, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and other approaches to tailor the therapy I offer to the needs of individual clients.
Counselling can help people come to terms with childhood traumas, difficulties in coping with life and in acquiring new perspectives of life situations. This process can equip clients with better life strategies and look ahead with more clarity and a sense of direction. Whilst it is important to sometimes look at past events the main focus of my work is centred around the here and now and the client's future. We would initially look at what the client wishes to gain from the counselling process and work on realistic and achievable goals.
I am very passionate about empowering and motivating people and to help them regain a healthier perspective on life.
I can help with issues such as depression and anxiety, low self-esteem, loss and bereavement, loss of direction, past trauma, stress, poor work / life balance, anger, internet porn and similar addictions, issues around alcohol, and other issues affecting people's emotional wellbeing.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a registered and accredited counsellor & supervisor with an Integrative approach to counselling. I have 20 years experience as a counsellor. Initially, I worked for eight years within the NHS as a counsellor in GP surgeries. I also taught counselling at different levels at a local further education college and ran the department for four years. I left this college in 2007 to focus on my private practice which I run from home.
I also hold a qualification as a life coach and, when appropriate I will use some of my coaching tools within my counselling work.
