About me

I would describe myself as an empathic, yet honest and straight talking counsellor. I am hoping that I will be able to answer any questions you may have about me below, but if not, I am happy to talk through anything further you wish to know, so please do contact me.

I am a qualified counsellor, and my Diploma was gained over four years. During this time, I gained practical as well as theory based experience.

Going through this training means that I am a member of a counselling association, helping to ensure professionalism, and the safety of my client work.

I have additional training in certain areas mentioned below. I have supported clients with many different issues, including depression and anxiety, including Generalised Anxiety Disorder, relationship issues and general feelings of sadness. I also work alongside clients with Learning Difficulties.

We would work out of a secure and private space. Our work together would be confidential, and this would include any self-harm or suicidal tendencies. I would explain this in more detail in our initial session.

You have the freedom to disclose as little or as much as you like to me. I will not force you to speak or bully you into talking about certain issues. I will listen a lot throughout our sessions. I will offer you a place to express your thoughts and fears, together finding a way for you to move forward in dealing with whatever stresses and issues you may have.

Choosing the right counsellor for you is an important part of the process. I am sincere in my approach to counselling, offering direct and understanding support. I do understand how hard accessing the right support can be, and that this may be a worrying time for you. I would work to build a trusting relationship with truthful exchanges, leading to better self-awareness and confidence in the ability to be the real "you."

If you would like any further information about anything I've discussed, please take a look at my website, or feel free to contact me. I am available to talk through any concerns you have regarding counselling. My initial meeting would be free, so if you feel you need a book a session, please do feel you can come and speak to me.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Person-centred Counsellor. This is an approach that deals with the way an individual sees themselves, not how they are seen by people around them. I would work to understand your experiences, seeing them as individual to you. I have gained the below qualifications in this approach;

  • Diploma - Therapeutic Counselling (CPCAB)
  • Diploma - CBT Counselling (The Institute of Counselling)
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills (CPCAB)

I have additional training in:

  • Bereavement
  • Mental Health in the workplace
  • GDPR for Practitioners
  • Working with Self Harm
  • Drug and Alcohol Awareness
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Transactional Analysis
  • Suicide
  • Trauma
  • Multi Agency Working
  • Safeguarding
  • Equality, Diversity & Rights
  • Person-centered Art Therapy
  • Mentoring students with additional learning needs

I regularly attend training in various subjects to keep up-to-date with new ideas, research and legislation. This additional work can be audited by The BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) ensuring I am working with you to the very best of my ability.

Experience:

I have my own private counselling practice, but have also volunteered at Kemp Hospice counselling bereaved clients, and have mentored survivors of domestic abuse through the charity The Jan Foundation. I currently also work with Worcester University mentoring students with additional learning needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
