I offer psychotherapy to individuals, couples and groups. My approach is holistic and creative, drawing on a range of traditions according to the needs and sensibilities of my clients. Alongside my consultancy and private practice, I am the Clinical Director of a leading Eating Disorder outpatient treatment programme. My extensive experience of working in numerous mental health organisations, NHS hospitals, prisons and 12 step addiction treatment programmes coupled with my diverse training have enabled me to develop my own unique approach to working therapeutically; a holistic and creative one which addresses the whole person. I am a passionate advocate for and teacher of mindfulness meditation and regularly interweave this into my work.
It can be confusing to know what kind of help would best meet your needs. For this reason I offer an initial assessment session where we can explore the reasons for your seeking counselling or psychotherapy and the best format for this to take place. I am able to offer time limited short term programmes of sessions, long term, open ended psychotherapy and weekly group psychotherapy.
Considering the therapeutic relationship central to my work, I provide a safe space in which personal conflicts and problems can be explored in trust and confidence. Together, we will explore your present concerns with care, sensitivity, and curiosity, whilst staying open to influences from your past, and expectations for your future. The work unfolds over time as we attend to the deep questions. Through this process we invite the possibility of healing and of your discovering the truth of who you are and how you want to live. I bring warmth, creativity and spontaneity to my work, with the aim to engage you in your own process of discovering your personal creativity, spontaneity and potential.
As a qualified Psychodrama Psychotherapist, I also use creative methods and guided dramatic action to help you safely express your feelings, thoughts and behaviours. Where words fail you, or get in the way, using art materials, action methods and movement, can help you express your inner world, share your difficulties and by so doing begin to find creative solutions. In psychodrama issues or problems and their possible solutions are enacted rather than just talked about. Psychodrama offers the opportunity to practise new roles safely, see yourself from outside, gain insight and change. No previous experience or artistic skill is necessary, and I will fully support you in your exploration of yourself through the use of this powerful method.
