Profile

I am a BACP accredited Integrative Counsellor offering counselling to people who may be suffering emotional distress in their lives. The stress and burden of responsibility that goes with modern living can have a debilitating effect on the individual and may also be causing problems in relationships with others. Counselling offers a safe place to discuss painful emotional issues that may be causing you problems in your life.

Who may benefit?
I see adults and young people over 16 for short (6-12 sessions) to long term counselling who may be feeling that there are aspects of their lives which they would like to change but do not know how to go about it. It can be difficult to ask for help from a professional, but the insights gained from engaging in a therapeutic relationship can often be life changing.
People I see may have gone through a divorce, redundancy, bereavement or been bullied at school, or perhaps life is just not how they want it to be. They may have a pattern of high anxiety or very low moods and are not really sure why. For most there is a sense that that life has become unmanageable.

Integrative Counselling
Integrative Counselling draws on Cognitive, Psycho-dynamic, Behaviour, Humanistic and Mindfulness theories to provide a therapy which can effectively treat a wide variety of people and their individual problems. Feelings, thoughts, actions, and past experiences are given equal weight as I believe that my role is to engage with you as a whole person rather than a set of symptoms. For me, the working relationship which is co-created over a number of weeks or sometimes months, is central to the healing process and can lead to new understanding, hope and a wider variety of choices in your life.

The First Session
The first session will be an initial consultation and an opportunity for us to decide together if my style of talking therapy is right for you. I will probably ask you quite a few questions and you will have the chance to ask me questions too, it is important that we both feel that we can work together. In subsequent sessions I will ask far fewer questions and there may be some long pauses as the therapeutic process unfolds. In the event that Integrative Counselling is not for you, I will endeavour to refer you on to another professional or organisation who may suit your individual needs better.

Practicalities
Your privacy is paramount and my consulting room is situated in a peaceful location close to bus and train services and has ample on road parking. I have worked and trained in private practice and the NHS and so I am able to offer a service which can be tailored to your individual needs, whilst complementing the talking therapies on offer through your G.P. surgery.
I am CRB checked, fully insured and member of the BACP whose Ethical Code of Conduct I abide by.
