About me

There can be times when you have things you really need to talk about. Perhaps you’re experiencing difficulties with your relationships, with family issues or anxieties about work are becoming overwhelming. Maybe you just have a general sense that things are not right and that something is getting in the way of you feeling happy and fulfilled. At times like these, speaking to someone who is not part of your everyday life can be very helpful and effective.

I am an experienced psychodynamic counsellor, seeing clients in central Newbury, Berkshire. I work with adults in weekly sessions on a one-to-one basis. Whatever your reasons for coming to counselling, I will offer you a safe, confidential and non-judgmental space to talk.

My training means that as well as thinking with you about what is troubling you in the present, I can help you explore possible underlying reasons for the difficulties you are experiencing. Sometimes we unintentionally repeat unhelpful patterns - in our relationships, at work or in terms of how we think about life and ourselves. Professional counselling can help identify and address such patterns.

Consequently, counselling offers immediate support when you are finding things hard as well as the possibility of long-lasting change through a greater understanding of yourself.

If you would like to get in touch then please contact me and I will get back to you within 24 hours so we can arrange a time to meet. This initial session will be an opportunity for you to tell me about your reasons for seeking counselling and for you to see how you find the experience of talking to me.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold a Diploma in Psychodynamic Theory and Counselling following four years of training accredited by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and validated by the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC).

I have worked as a counsellor at Time to Talk youth counselling charity in Newbury, at YMCA Southampton Counselling, with SAGE counselling in Southampton and I currently work in private practice in Newbury.

I attend regular continuous professional development workshops and professional supervision. I am also undertaking an Infant Observation training with the British Psychotherapy Foundation to increase my understanding of human development and relationships.

I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (membership no. 827936) and follow the ethical guidelines of this professional body.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
