About me

I am a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist offering a private and confidential counselling service; face to face, online, and by telephone. My office is based in Redditch. I will always respond to enquiries and do my utmost to do this on the same day where possible.

I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and work with individuals, couples and families for both short term and long term counselling. I have over 12 years experience of working with a wide range of clients.

My approach is integrative which means I have received formal training different counselling modalities (Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive and Behavioural therapies) to combine them effectively and ethically to suit individual people, groups and circumstances. I have also undertaken additional training in Systemic approaches which informs my work with couples, parent and child dynamics and families interactions. Please visit the Association of Family Therapy for more information.

I believe people are unique and treat them as such. I will listen attentively and be non-judgmental in the counselling relationship. I am committed to personal and professional development which enables me to work ethically in accordance with the BACP, where I am listed on the BACP register, accredited by the Professional Standards Authority of Health and Social Care and I am also an accredited member of the NCPS (National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society)

Current and recent work

Alongside my private work, I have been the Mental Health Lead for a counselling service which saw 80 people a week for therapy. This work involved mentoring and supporting student counsellors along with psychological assessments. I held clinical responsibility for this service.

I also work 1 day a week within a large Worcestershire secondary school, offering counselling to teenagers.

My professional interests are in the area of anxiety and stress and its effects, both psychologically and physically. If you are affected by anxiety, stress or panic I will work with you to help understand it's origins and make sense of it. We can then work together to achieve a better state of well being and a reduction of symptoms.

I am also interested in alternatives to labelling and the diagnostic, medical view of mental health.

If you're feeling overwhelmed or are living with low mood/depression, anxiety or having problems in relationships or experiencing difficulties generally and would like to explore how counselling may help, please email me to arrange an appointment. This is completely without obligation.

In addition to my counselling practice I am also a qualified personal development coach trained to ICF standards.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Areas of counselling I deal with

Other areas of counselling I deal with

My areas of interest include medically unexplained physical issues and the impact of psychological stress, anxiety and trauma on the body.

I also have a keen interest in the role of social, environmental and developmental factors when understanding a person's mental health, along with the family influences which may be helpful or unhelpful to a person's recovery.

In addition to Redditch I offer counselling remotely with people across the UK and Europe. I am also a qualified (trained to ICF competencies) personal development coach.

I also offer supervision to other counsellors and professionals in the helping professions.
