Life can sometimes produce a great deal of stress. The reasons for this can range from a heavy workload and imminent deadlines, to difficulties of a personal nature. Counselling provides an opportunity to discuss any difficulties you may be experiencing in your life with a qualified person.
Counselling is a process which enables you to explore and make sense of issues that may be distressing you or disrupting your life. I became a therapist because I knew that there were times in my life that I had needed to talk to someone outside my family and friends, and still do. Being able to share and learn about my experiences enabled me to grow and be happier with myself and in my relationships with others.
I work with respect for individuals' values and beliefs with the aim of offering the greatest opportunity for growth and change. Some of the issues you might explore are managing work stress, anxiety, panic attacks, low self esteem or relationships.

Stress in the workplace
My life experience has been varied and adventurous. I have worked in clubs, bars, stores, factories, colleges and youth work. I enjoy meeting and working with a vairety of people.
I have also taught at High School. I have been a teacher, Curriculum Leader and Assistant Headteacher, so understand first hand the stresses of working in a full on, target-driven environment. I have worked with many young teachers, other professionals and students from higher education on stress and work related problems. I have also led small workshops in stress and anxiety for groups of teachers and others.
Workshops usually take place in a community centre for 2 hours across 3 weeks. These are interactive and include: the sharing of experiences; factual information about the body and its responses to stress; techniques to combat stress and anxiety; practise in these techniques; hypnotherapy and relaxation; drama, homework and usually a lot of humour and learning form shared experiences. Many clients come to see me with phobias or confidence issues. Hypnotherapy is a good way to find the trigger to many symptoms and work to learn new behaviours to replace the old. I have success in one-off sessions, e.g., building confidence for work interviews, driving on motorways, flying, visits to the dentist or making a speech at a wedding.
Confidentiality and code of Practice
I am a professional member of the National Counselling Society and National Hypnotherapy Society. I work within the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework. In line with these codes, the information that you discuss will remain confidential unless you ask your counsellor to share it with someone else. There are a few exceptions to this which will be explained to you when you contact me.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a BA (Hons) degree in English and Sociology; a PGCE and NPQH in teaching; a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and a Diploma in Hypnotherapy.
I am working towards an MA in Clinical Studies to further my professional practice and personal development.
