About me

Hello my name is Emma Newsome. I am a person centred counsellor and I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and bound by its ethical framework for good practice where I embrace difference, diversity and value people as individuals regardless of age, gender, sexuality, race, religion or background.

I provide general counselling for a wide range of issues including Anxiety, Stress, Depression, LGBT Issues, Low self esteem, Bereavement and Loss, Anger, Fears and Phobias, HIV, Relationship issues and what ever else you may wish to talk about. I also have experience of working as a counsellor within a national mental health charity.

I feel that it is important within my counselling encounters with client's to be able to work within an awareness of difference and diversity so that I am able to understand the client's own frame of reference, their own patterns of relating with others and where I can focus on the "here and now" with the client. I feel that my approach to counselling offers support and encouragement to a wide range of client's so that they are able to make the right decisions for themselves. I also believe that each and every individual has their own view and beliefs about what is best for them and that certain aspects of other theories may help with some client's. Therefore, I am open to use a more integrated approach with certain client's if it suits their needs and their progress.

Specialised areas:

I have a strong understanding of LGBT issues where I am able to offer a more specialised counselling service for the LGBT community for issues such as coming out, coping with confusing feelings, prejudice and discrimination, rejection from family, friends and society and feelings of isolation and being alone.

I am able to work with individuals.
I am able to offer short or long term work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
