About me

I am a qualified/registered psychodynamic counsellor/therapist offering support to individuals and couples struggling with various issues. I have 18 years of experience as a counsellor and offer short term and open ended counselling. Within my practice, when appropriate, I combine Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques and approaches, particularly useful in dealing with certain issues like phobias or fears.

Over the years, I have been amazed at people's power and their strengths and commitment to overcome any difficulties. I believe that each individual has got the capacity to change and improve their life and I always welcome the opportunity, through counselling, to support them to do that.

I have worked in the mental health and disabilities fields for over 20 years now and have full knowledge and understanding of the difficulties people face when they experience challenges in their lives, both from the point of view of those living with mental health issues and those who have experienced episodes of ill mental health due to changes in circumstances or life events.

Over the years, I have supported people who were depressed and anxious, people who have felt unable to cope, individuals and couples who have experienced relationship issues, loss, crisis, other major life changing events, like redundancy/job loss, those with addictions and eating disorders. I have also worked with people who want to use the counselling for individual growth and development.

I run my practice Monday to Saturday and can be flexible around the appointment times and offer daytime and evening appointments too.

I offer both short term and open ended counselling to individuals and couples:

Short term counselling can be accessed for a particular issue, or if the client does not want to commit to open ended work. It's particularly useful to those people who have had counselling in the past and just want to revisit some of the work and reinforce any skills learned. Short term counselling can be available for 6-12 sessions.

Open ended counselling/therapy will give the client more time to explore any issues, particularly those deriving from their childhoods. It gives the opportunity to make connections and look at patterns of behaviour, as well as explore the unconsciousness. The number of session can be discussed and agreed as the therapy progresses and there will be regular reviews.

Initial assessment: The first session will be an initial assessment; this is an opportunity for the client to see how they feel about the counsellor, ask questions, explain their situation and background and decide whether the type of counselling and the approach is right for them. This session could last up to 1.30 hrs. Consequent sessions are 50 minutes each and run on weekly basis.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
