About me

Does life feel difficult at the moment? Is it hard to talk to others about what you are experiencing? Are you looking for help?

As a counsellor I work with people from many different backgrounds, who, for a variety of reasons, are feeling troubled. Most of us will have difficult times in our lives, and we can often feel hesitant about asking for help. While it may not be easy to open up about difficult or distressing emotions or events, sharing your experience can help you feel less alone with your problems, and more hopeful that things could get better.

Deciding to see a counsellor could be a positive first step towards addressing whatever is worrying or distressing you. Your experience will be valued and respected within a collaborative process which helps you to understand difficult or negative thoughts and feelings, in a supportive, non-judgemental and confidential space. Improved awareness about yourself and your situation may help you to identify and strengthen your own resources to handle what is going on, both now and in the future.

My counselling approach is humanistic and integrative. Being trained in Gestalt, Existential and Person-Centred counselling means that I adapt my approach to suit your specific needs. I offer both short-term and longer-term counselling.

I welcome people for whoever they are, respecting them as individuals irrespective of background, ethnic origin, religious beliefs, gender or sexual orientation.

I work within easy reach of Maidenhead, Windsor, Eton, Slough, Farnham Common, Cookham Langley and Ascot.

Please visit my website www.elizabethbutlercounselling.com for further information about how counselling can help you, what to expect in the first session, and other questions you might have.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
