About me

"When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves"
Are you struggling to deal with anxiety, panic disorder, stress, depression, relationship problems? Whatever your concerns are together we can look at a way to move forward. The thought of counselling can be daunting, you may have been thinking of having counselling for some time, taking the first step can be difficult, you may not have opened up to anyone about how you feel before.

I am an Integrative Counsellor which means I am trained in several different approaches and will work with you to suit your individual needs. I offer counselling to adults, children (from 10 years) teenagers and young people, in a warm, friendly, non-judgemental and confidential environment.  I am a registere member of the BACP (Bristish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) Reg. MBCAP

I offer a free 20 minute phone/Zoom/Skype consultation.

I have a consulting room in Wells, Somerset.  I offer face to face counselling and also work remotely on Zoom/Skype and Telephone Counselling.  If you have any questions or concerns about counselling, please ring for an informal chat.

My therapies include:

Person Centred Therapy (PCT)
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Person Centred Therapy is at the core of my work. It's a talking therapy putting you at the centre of the counselling process, it's about your own thoughts and feelings and not the counsellors. I will not give you advice or tell you what to do, I will help you to find your own answers.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a type of talking treatment that focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and behaviour, and teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It combines cognitive therapy (examining the things you think) and behaviour therapy (examining the things you do).

I am also conversant with Mindfullness, Relaxation and Visualisation Techniques, Inner Child Work and Creative Techniques.

I believe counselling works best when you feel safe and comfortable to talk freely about your concerns. Choosing the right counsellor is important. Please don't hesitate to call me in confidence, I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Whatever you want to talk about never think it's too insignificant to bring to counselling.

TESTIMONIALS

'I met Liz after going through a tough time at work. As a professional ina high pressure environment - it had simply become overwhelming and the panic attacks were derailing me. Liz was endlessly patient and helped me to talk through why I had got myself where I was and what I could do to deal with the pressures faced. Arming with a toolkit of techniques - I found myself immediately more able to cope and even more helpful - that the techniques helped me become more effective at work. At the end of the sessions I felt far better equipped to understand my own triggers and how to cope with them - thus reducing the need for them! A win-win'. Always good to know that Liz is there though if I ever need a 'top-up'. Can't recommend enough'. Anon

"Never having had counselling before I didn't know what to expect, Liz made me feel very comfortable and I was able to talk openly about things I never managed to talk about with someone before.
It gave me the equipment to cope with things I found difficult in my life.
Liz was understanding and made me feel supported when looking at certain situations.
The future now looks more positive thanks to Liz and her understanding and easy to talk to nature."
Thank you.

"I cannot recommend Liz highly enough. I know it sounds like a cliché, however the support and help she has provided me with has been life changing.

"Walking in for my first appointment felt daunting - I just didn't know where to begin, Liz immediately made me feel at ease with her very warm and friendly nature. After the session, it felt like such a release. The environment Liz creates feels very safe and not at all scary, she doesn't sit with a clipboard writing down her thoughts - you just chat"

"I always came away feeling something had been gained from the session. As well as unpicking my problems, a large part of my counselling process was about developing strategies to cope and deal with difficult situations in the future."

“You have everything to gain by just popping along to meet Liz and see what you think for yourself. The process can be challenging, but with Liz's support I don't think you'll be disappointed with the results.”

"Thank you Liz"

"I feel that I am 100% better than I was before and I have to thank you for setting the foundations in that. After my experiences over the last year I have become a big advocate of counselling, I have referred you to several of my patients and colleagues. I mainly just wanted to say a big thank you for being able to get me out of the self-destructive rut that I found myself in, to the person I have become, not the old me, a new improved version.
"Thanks again Liz, you are very good at what you do. I appreciate everything." N

"The sessions I had with Liz were invaluable. I found the practical strategies really helped me tackle my problems." K

"When I was first referred to Liz I was in a bad way. I had suffered from depression for 35 years and had been on numerous different anti-depressants and had seen a few therapists over the years. At all times I felt Liz was going at my pace. She gently led me through the rooms I had notices on too painful to deal with and we faced them together, yes it was painful but never more than I could cope with. By talking about my feelings from the past, gradually, I felt complete and at peace. I have gone from a deeply sad person who put on a cheery exterior to the world to a deeply happy, peaceful and positive person who doesn't pretend to be someone she isn't. Thank you Liz, you have truly changed my life. Awesome." Suzie

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
