Further Information

Taking the first step of approaching a counsellor can be a big one for many reasons. You are welcome to arrange an initial appointment with me, giving you chance to meet me before committing to any further sessions, and giving me a chance to hear what it is that you would like to achieve from counselling. I offer short term work or long term work, and this depends very much on what you would like to change or achieve. I do charge for this first session.

For some people a life event or current situation such as a recent bereavement or relationship breakdown may be what is troubling them, and for others it may be a much more complicated set of events or a series of events over many years that has led them to seek support. Sometimes a single event leads to a re opening of past events, it is different for everyone, and everyone's expectations of therapy or counselling will differ.

Counselling is not always comfortable or easy, and can be challenging and uncomfortable at times. I will not offer you false hope or expectations about what we can achieve together, and if I do not think I am the best person to support you I will explain this and help you to find more specialist or appropriate support. If we do decide to work together much of the outcome will be down to whether you are ready to make changes or want to make changes, as well as what I can offer to you as your counsellor.

Every therapist has a particular area of interest or experience or specialism, and mine is working with young people, particularly around adolescence, and people using self harm & eating disorders as a way of coping with the world. I am also passionate about working with the impact of feeling, or being perceived as different, this includes a wide range of experience such as colour, disability, gender, sexuality, and many less obvious areas of difference that can cause much distress. I also offer training in this area.

If you would like to arrange an initial session with no obligation to book further sessions, please call me. If I am unable to answer the call immediately, I will call you back as soon as possible, usually within a few hours.
