About me

My role as a counsellor isn’t to give advice or choose a particular direction for you… I will listen, be along side you and together we can consider ways of finding your own solutions. The sessions will be confidential and focused on your needs. Counselling is about a safe place for you to explore and express your issues, concerns and fears, whether these are past or present.

Counselling is different to talking with your friends and family. They may have strong views and a biased opinion. I know the value of listening to your concerns attentively, without judging or needing a certain outcome. If we chose to work together, I will help you to explore and clarify whatever is happening in your life.

The counselling I offer, Person Centred Counselling, it is a supportive, non directive form of therapy where you are given the space and safety to share your concerns.

As we work together, I will ask you questions which lead you to deep discoveries about your feelings, your blind spots, your needs and your hopes. I will show you empathy, understanding and will be supportive and non-judgmental.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have qualified with a Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Person Centered Counselling. As part of my continued personal and professional development I regularly attend workshops for Counsellors/Psychotherapists.

I completed my training at Tower Hamlets College in East London and my placement was carried out at MIND in Haringey.

Since qualifying in 2009 I have been working in private practice in East London. I also work at Survivors UK. They are a charity for male survivors of rape and sexual abuse.

I am supported by a BACP registered supervisor who I see on a regular basis to discuss my counselling work.

I am a member of the BACP and I am committed to working in accordance with the principles set out in their Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

The time and date of the first session is usually arranged by telephone or by email. The easiest way to do this is to call me, Lizzie, on 07972 329038.

This number is confidential and is only used by me. We will set up a time/date to meet and assess each other to see how or if we would like to continue. There is no obligation to continue at this stage. It is a chance to meet up face to face and is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and for you to begin to talk about what brings you to counselling.

If we decide to continue we will confirm a fee, discuss any existing holiday arrangements, and then meet once a week at the same time on the same day.

We may work for short or long periods of time depending entirely on how you feel things are going. I also work with a pre-agreed fixed number of sessions.

Your session time is reserved each week for you and I require 24hours for cancellation.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
