Elizabeth Hill, M.A. Core Process Psychotherapy UKCP Reg
19 Croft Road
I am an experienced psychotherapist, and practice in Totnes, Torquay, and Exeter,
I offer warmth, safety, and genuineness as a basic starting point for the work of therapy. From there, my aim is to support you in making changes if you want to, enabling you to inhabit your life more fully and with a greater sense of ease.Sometimes, for all of us, this can mean going against very deeply ingrained habits which served us well in the past, but now limit us.
How Psychotherapy can help
You do not have to be in obvious crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes people come with a general feeling of dis-ease or dissatisfaction, which can be a more subtle.indication that something is not right.
Psychotherapy sessions are weekly, and my work tends to be medium to long term. However, shorter periods can also be very useful, perhaps focussing on a specific current issue that may be troubling you.
What a session might be like
Sessions take place in a dedicated therapy room and are an hour in length. I use mindfulness in my work, as well as Focusing, both tools being underpinned by my longstanding commitment to Buddhist practices of awareness and compassion. A session may also include non-verbal expression such as silence, and movement; emotional release (including laughter!); and various forms of creativity.
I find it difficult to convey in words all that the depth relationship of psychotherapy potentially has to offer.
The pace and level of the work is whatever feels safe and right for you.
I offer an introductory meeting lasting from about half an hour to an hour free. This enables us to meet face to face, and see what issues are alive for you, and to explore if working together feels right for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am registered with the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy).
I am an accredited graduate of the Four Year Professional Training in Core Process Psychotherapy run by the Karuna Institute.
I am fortunate to have worked in a variety of settings in both Devon and Birmingham, as well as in private practice, with a very diverse range of people. My experience includes working with a Community Mental Health Team, individual and groupwork with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse, and offering counselling with the Terrence Higgins Trust.
My earlier training as a Massage Therapist (I.T.E.C. 1984) deeply informs my work as a psychotherapist, and the exploration of what it is to be a human being, in a particular body, in relationship to others.
At nearly 60 years old, I bring my life experience to my practice. I am fully committed to my ongoing self-development and learning.
