Elaine Maltby Registered Counsellor MBACP
We all have the resources inside us to deal with whatever life throws at us.
Just sometimes it doesn't seem that way.
As a counsellor, I have worked for over a decade with clients with a wide range of challenges. Each client is different. Some have experienced almost unimaginable situations earlier in life.
Using person-centred and resource-based therapies, I work with clients to identify and unlock their own inner strengths, and so begin the individual healing process.
When you make that decision and take the first step to enter into the counselling setting, I recognise that in a sense, when you work with me you bring that knot in your stomach. It has become an incredibly complicated knot, and it took time to become so tied up in it.
What events, what people, what places caused this knot in your stomach, I do not know yet. That is my role as your counsellor, to understand your story and understand how the knot became so complicated. Yet I cannot untie it for you. What I do is listen for the strands, and wonder about them and I may ask you what would happen if we pulled that thread and examined it.
This is the process that we will go though, examining the threads of your life and understanding them in order to find your own inner resources, your own strengths and creativity for you to untie the knot and learn how to deal with future life tangles.
