About me

Are you looking for an experienced counsellor who works remotely, who can help you work through a difficult time in your life? Perhaps you are struggling with stress, anger, depression or anxiety, weight management issues, relationship issues or a bereavement. I'm Edwina, and I am committed to providing a warm and supportive relationship, in which you are the sole focus, to help you work through your confusion. People often seek out counselling with me when a stressful change is taking place which can, at times, feel overwhelming and stress plays a major part in people's unhappiness. Often people come to me knowing that they need help as 'things don't quite feel right' but are unable to pinpoint the problem. In my experience issues do not get better or disappear without help, you are in control of choosing to see me,(together we can look at what changes you’d like to make and start implementing them), choosing to see someone else, or doing nothing. Whatever you choose, I hope that you find the help that you need.

How I can help you

I have been able to help many people overcome their difficulties. Counselling is collaborative, I will work with you to fully understand your situation, my approach is warm and supportive so that together we can explore your concerns and any deep seated issues so that they no longer hold you back and impact your ability to get the most out of life.

My experience and research has shown that counselling can help to reduce stress, promote better sleep, improve your work/life balance, reduce arguments, promote greater intimacy, expand your resilience, and assist with better decision making, all of which provides a greater sense of well-being.

If this sounds like something you want feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat 07784 105 769 alternatively you can email me at info@edwinahawkridgecounselling.com

  • Relationship Problems
  • Eating Disorders
  • Work Related Issues
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Death, Loss and Bereavement

Working Remotely

Over the years I have received frequent request from people who need my services but cannot access Stamford or London. In order to reach as many people who need my help as possible, I also work remotely via video call.

I use software called doxyme, and I send you a link which allows you access to a private room. It doesn't require you to download any software or be a tech genius to operate it! All you need is a Laptop or phone and internet access.

Specialisms

Young People

I have spent many years counselling young people; one in four teenage girls is depressed, there is a rise in teenage self harm and loneliness and young people have to navigate the ever pressurising world of social media. I help young people untangle the confusion of school, peer relationships, bullying, substance abuse, self-harm and many other concerns.

Eating Disorders

In addition to working in mental health as a counsellor I am a specially trained therapist for working with Eating Disorders, Disordered Eating, Obesity and Weight issues. Food is a complex relationship forged in childhood and adapted as we navigate life. It doesn't take much for the relationship to go wrong which can lead to under or overeating and possibly binge eating in between. Eating Disorders can make you feel miserable, specialist help and support is needed to overcome an eating issue, it rarely disappears on it's own let's start rebuilding your happiness in this area so that eating and weight is no longer an issue for you.

I work with Anorexia, Bulimia, Binge Eating Disorder and Other Eating Disorders, Obesity and Weight Management. Each eating issue requires unique ways of working to help put you back in control and move forward with your life.

Eating Disorders - Breakthrough Session

I am passionate about my work; my approach is holistic which means I use psychological and nutritional interventions to help you rebuild the person lost to the eating disorder. Part of working holistically calls for dealing with any issues with happiness, anxiety, depression, assertiveness, self-confidence and body image in addition to your eating disorder.

A one-off breakthrough session is a collaborative exploration, that gets to the heart of the problem and what’s keeping you stuck. In a 3-hour breakthrough session we will look at your relationship with food, how it impacts on your life, barriers to change, and help you discover what you need to do to do to move forward.

Weight Management

In addition to general counselling, I am a specialist therapist for weight management and weight loss. I am trained in the evidence based approach for successful and lasting weight loss promoted by the National Centre for Eating Disorders. If your quality of life is impacted by worries about your weight, an endless cycle of dieting or an unhappy relationship with food and your body, I can help you gain control over you're lifestyle, eating and behaviours to boost willpower and make sustainable changes to your weight, size and shape. Please go to my Website www.edwinahawkridgecounselling.com to find out more.

Approach

My approach is warm and supportive, grounded in Humanistic theory and is an integration of Person Centred theory and Object Relations. This means that I am able to apply the insight of theory to really hear, understand and help you, make changes.

Next Steps

Taking that first step to enter into counselling, regardless of your reasons, can be daunting, you may feel anxious about what it will be like and worried about discussing your personal circumstances with a stranger. These worries are understandable and normal. Call me if you have any questions or want to book an appointment 07784 105 769. When you meet me, or another counsellor it's important to remember that counselling is for you, it's important to feel comfortable with your counsellor and that you feel they are listening to you without judgement and trying to understand your situation.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

General Mental health initial assessments and all follow up sessions in Stamford are 50 minutes long and are £80

Seeking counselling is a positive step and one of  the hardest steps in a life changing journey.  Research has shown that one of the main reasons people do not enter into counselling is because they doubt its ability to ‘work’. I use measurable reviews to see if there have been changes for you during the counselling process, although most people see the changes for themselves in the form of better communication with others, improved happiness and emotional wellbeing and improved resilience.

Further information

Food Eating Weight and Size

I am a specialist therapist for weight management and weight loss. I am trained in the evidence based approach for successful and lasting weight loss promoted by the National Centre for Eating Disorders. Being or feeling overweight in today's society can be challenging. We turn to food in times of stress or anxiety in celebration or commiseration.

The mind controls everything, and without fundamental changes to your mindset, nutrition and habits the cycle of weight loss followed by weight gain will continue.

An Approach that Works

I have trained with the National Centre for Eating Disorders (NCfED) , the primary organisation in the UK for understanding and working with people who struggle with these issues. NCfED draws on research studies from the UK and USA into what works, what may get in the way, and, importantly, what doesn't work.

One of the key things that doesn't work is a reliance on rules and willpower alone which is an approach, typical in the diet industry. The problem with dieting is it ignores several important complex factors.

You may:

  • Eat for emotional reasons (we all do sometimes)
  • Have psychological barriers to weight loss and maintenance (many people do)
  • Have had physiological responses to repeated cycles of dieting and weight gain (many dieters do)
  • Lack the information and tools to maintain a healthy weight after dieting (most people lack these)

I will help you to move to a happier relationship with food, eating and weight, using a more holistic approach which involves providing you with emotional support, accurate knowledge about food and the body and the tools to succeed.
