I am an experienced Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and I am accredited with the UKCP and registered with the BACP. I currently work full time in private practice having spent several years dividing my time between a GP's surgery and two charities.
I am trained in a number of different areas including psychodynamic and CBT models and I adapt my approach to suit your needs.
The main goal of therapy is to develop understanding of your thoughts, behaviours and feelings. I work with a range of issues including, work related stress, anxiety, bereavement, depression, and abuse. People often people come to counselling because they feel they have lost their way in life and are looking for ways to explore the question “is this all there is?” Effective therapy provides a confidential space to explore this issue and can be as short as a single session or it can last several years; my approach involves putting your needs at the centre of the work and working at a pace that suits you.
Psychodynamic therapy involves exploring how your past impacts on your current thoughts behaviours and feelings and acknowledges the role of the unconscious. CBT therapy focusses on thoughts and behaviours in the present moment.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. - Marianne Williamson
Successful counselling is often a process of finding the right therapist at the right time for you. If you think I might be able to help you then please feel free to call me or email me. I don't charge a fee for initial telephone or email consultations. If you use a wheelchair then I can arrange to see you at a wheelchair accessible venue in Morpeth.
