My name is Douglas and I offer private therapeutic counselling in Dunfermline. I have been working as a therapist since 2009 and I am experienced in working with individuals, children and families.
I am also a children and families social worker and I have been doing this for the past 14 years. I became a therapist to help people understand more about themselves.
I am a Gestalt therapist and this means I raise awareness of what we think, feel and do, so we can make better informed choices about our lives.
We consider the past, future and what happens right here and now. Gestalt therapy offers an opportunity to begin at any point, an opportunity to explore relationships at depth and a space to express.
I like to work alongside you to explore what is troubling and consider what choices best support healthy living. Whether you experience anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties or anything else that life throws your way, we can work on this together.
The Gestalt approach is collaborative, we can:
- build a safe and confidential place where you can talk openly
- find out more about 'you' and the 'relationships' that support / trouble you
- explore what will support you to try something different, something new
I believe that we learn about ourselves and others when we come to Gestalt therapy. I know that I have learned some valuable things, and these continue to support me to know more about what I want and to go about living a more satisfying life.
What should I expect from my first session?
I practice at my home in Dunfermline. I am able to offer appointments mainly in daytime but offer some limited times in the evening.
Sessions last 1 hour, and in the first meeting we will talk about what you want need and expect from me as your counsellor. We will then decide if we want to work together and if I can help you. We will then look at how many sessions you may need. This can be up 10 sessions, or we may decide to continue ongoing sessions with review.
