Profile
Why therapy with me? As a Gestalt therapist I believe in creating a safe space through building a relationship that is based on two-way dialogue.
Working with me you will learn more about how you function in your 'thinking, feeling and doing'. With this greater awareness you can make choices that are more supportive to your well-being, and begin to celebrate what you do well.
Gestalt therapy is an exciting and creative way of researching human experience. We can co-design experiments to know more of what happens in 'the here-and-now', and find out something of what happened back 'there and then'.
Through this approach you will learn how to meet the moment with greater adaptability and flexibility.
My values
As a therapist and human being I value each person as having unique energy, individual creativity and organic motivation to meet the world every day. Ultimately, we do the best we can with what we have as we try to adjust to the changing environment. In order to do this we all need a little extra support.
I strongly believe that Gestalt is a tool that can support us all to live a modern life, with awareness.
Where will we meet?
I practice in Edinburgh and in Fife. I offer short term (6 to 12 sessions), longer term (12 to 25 sessions) or ongoing therapy. I am open to building an individual and supportive therapy space together.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I studied Psychology at Edinburgh University in 1994. During this time I explored psychotherapy for myself. This enabled me to experience the world more fully and resulted in me carrying less of a burden.
I worked in the commercial sector in recruitment and management. Although enjoyable, I reached a point of wanting something more satisfying in my working life.
I gained a Masters in Social Work in 2004. I have now worked in this field for ten years.
I completed the Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy at Edinburgh Gestalt Institute. This has given me greater awareness of myself and a deeper understanding of us as human beings who stand on the third rock from the sun.
