About me

Hello and welcome. I am a UKCP Integrative Psychotherapist who works primarily with individuals and couples in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment. I work with people who are seeking brief and solution focused counselling or open-ended integrative psychotherapy. My training has drawn upon Gestalt Psychotherapy, Transactional Analysis, Object Relations and Self-Psychology. I also have experience in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). In addition to individual psychotherapy and couple counselling I offer clinical supervision.

Training, qualifications & experience

My qualifications include a Postgraduate Certificate, Postgraduate Diploma and an MA (Birmingham University) in Integrative Psychotherapy. I gained these qualifications at the Sherwood Institute, where I trained between 2001 and 2005.

I am committed to developing my practice and my profession through further study and training. Courses I have attended have centered mainly around my passion for relational psychotherapy, including The Art and Science of Relational Psychotherapy with Richard Erskine and Character Styles with Stephen Johnson. I completed a Diploma in Supervision in 2011.

I have worked extensively in both the public and private sectors, including Primary Care, Employee Assistance Programs and MIND. For the last 17 years I have worked primarily in private practice.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

I provide counselling for issues and difficulties that require focused work over a limited number of sessions. I offer psychotherapy for issues that need longer term in-depth therapy.

Early in our lives we make creative adjustments to childhood and family situations that give rise to beliefs about ourselves that inhibit us in later life. We may be fitting in with our families or trying to survive difficult situations the best we can. This can result in us living our adult lives in ways that we find restrictive or unfulfilling. We can feel stuck in our relationships or patterns of behaviour. I believe that through a willingness for self-exploration and through supportive, healing contact, psychotherapy can provide the conditions for engagement with a life that is more fulfilling and with the potential for happiness.
