About me

Hello, my name is Doug Foot and I run Wellbeingtherapieslondon, a CBT, Psychotherapy, EMDR and Acupuncture practice; welcome to my profile! I am a BACP Accredited and registered Counsellor and Psychotherapist. I am also a fully qualified and experienced supervisor. With talking therapies, all of my appointments are currently offered online with appointments available in the mornings and evenings Tuesday to Friday. I also offer acupuncture sessions in person at my South East London Forest Hill clinic which is located just off the south circular and close to the Horniman Museum.

I hope you find the content interesting and that it gives you a feel for who I am and how I work. If you like what you see and have any questions, or would like a chat about how we could work together, then please drop me a line.

I offer both short and long term therapy. I work with an integrative therapeutic approach which means that depending on your needs your therapy could be more Cognitive/Behavioural, Psychodynamic  or even Mindfulness based.

Why do my clients come for therapy? Well, some of my clients come for a course of therapy if they are experiencing immediate psychological distress such as anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, anger, low self-esteem or confidence, depression or are not feeling in control of their lives. Other clients are interested in making progress with relationship issues, whether they be of a personal or work related matter. Some clients come to discuss psycho-sexual and sexuality concerns. Many come for therapy as the basis for exploring the way ahead after a change in career, or even redundancy.

With Cognitive therapy and CBT generally the emphasis will be very much about working in a solution focused manner in relation to a particular goal.

With Psychodynamic therapy the main focus will be to work towards revealing the unconscious content of the psyche, so as to unlock what you really want to achieve in life.  This means the sessions will look into early development experiences to help you make better sense of the here and now.  Psychodynamic psychotherapy also relies very much on cultivating a good interpersonal relationship between the therapist and client.

Mindfulness therapy can involve the use of meditation and other self-help practices to help you to better focus on the present.

Regardless of which approach is used, my therapy is very much designed around the needs of you, the individual client.

In terms of frequency of appointments, to begin with I usually schedule sessions for once per week.

Whatever your situation, please give me a call where I would be happy to discuss your situation in more detail.

Always happy to help.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
