About me

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile. I hope it gives you a flavour of my practice and how I work. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor, which means that I have trained in different counselling approaches. I have achieved a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and then enhanced my skills by attaining a Diploma in Cognitive Therapeutic Skills and Theory.

Being a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) means that as well as abiding to their code of ethics, I have a high level of training and supervised experience. The BACP also provides ongoing training. This, combined with my broad life and work experience, and a diverse client base puts me in a good position to understand your situation.

There are a number of reasons for seeking counselling, you may be experiencing depression, low mood or anxiety. Personal and/or work relationships may be causing difficulties, your home or working life may be stressful or you may be experiencing a life-crisis. You could be a carer feeling overwhelmed with difficult and confusing emotions or have suffered a bereavement or loss, feeling lost in the grieving process or struggling to cope with a life transition.

Counselling can help with those difficult times in life when you need to resolve a problem which is stopping you from achieving your personal best. I believe that there is no problem that cannot be resolved to your satisfaction and there are no limits to what can be achieved within counselling.

How we will work together

I want to ensure you feel confident enough to get in touch with me and share your experience and explore your feelings in an emphatic and non-judgmental space. Encouraging you to develop insight and understanding of your situation, while supporting you to gain control over your life.

I work with my clients depending on their personal needs. I apply Humanistic, Psychodynamic, Mindfulness approaches, Motivational Interviewing or Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic skills and theory during the counselling process. If appropriate, I can work solely within any of these therapies. The key to a successful outcome is to build up the therapeutic relationship together. Our sessions are short or long term, at a pace that you feel comfortable with.

Having experienced being a client in therapy myself I know how rewarding and sometimes challenging counselling can be. Coming out the other side with a new sense of identity and focus can be incredibly empowering.

I am here to listen. Encouraging you to develop insight and understanding of your current difficulties, while supporting you in resolving these difficulties to gain control over your life.

Together we will find a way of working that is tailored to your needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I previously worked in the voluntary sector providing individual therapy as a Volunteer Counsellor with the mental health charity Mind. I saw a diverse range of clients with issues such as depression, anxiety, abuse, PTSD, low self esteem and other life and relationships. I had also gained considerable experience whilst working as a Bereavement Support Volunteer at St Christopher's hospice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
