I am a qualified Person-Centred/Humanistic Counsellor, I have been trained in a variety of other counselling theories which I can integrate into my model of working to best suit the needs of each presenting client. I am a registered member of The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (B.A.C.P), which means that I adhere to a professional code of ethics, these can be found at www.bacp.co.uk/ethical_framework/. I also have appropriate CPD and Professional Indemnity Insurance to ensure that my work is both safe and of a high standard.
I have experience of working with both adults and teenagers within the counselling setting and can work with a broad range of issues. I work with each presenting client in a way which best suits their needs, drawing upon my training and understanding of the best uses of various techniques within the counselling relationship.
I have always had a love of people, even as a child there was a willingness to help and listen to people as they struggled in their problems. I guess counselling was always the natural progression for me in my adult life, and whilst my children were young I studied, finding even more that it felt like the right career choice for me.
As part of my study I experienced first hand at how beneficial counselling can be, they say that ‘you can’t take somewhere where you haven't been yourself’ and that’s very true. I know how difficult counselling can sometimes be, but with perseverance I also know how rewarding it can be. I know that life isn’t always easy, there are times that we need a helping hand. When our usual coping strategies (i.e. off-loading to friends/family or absorbing ourselves in hobbies) stop working, this is when I believe, a counsellor who is on the outside of the situation can be a crucial tool in getting through.
My focus is to create a counselling relationship with each client that allows them to feel at ease and totally understood.
My Training has been varied and I am qualified in the use of C.B.T techniques, Transactional Analysis, Focusing (mind and body attunement) and Hypnotherapy.
