About me

Thank you for reading my profile, you have just taken the first step towards dealing with a problem or issue, which feels as though it won't go away. It is natural that everyone will experience times when they feel unhappy, worried or angry. Life is not always easy and these are normal reactions to the many life events we experience, such as the breakdown of a relationship, the death of a loved one or times of stress.
However if these negative feelings and emotions seem to be constantly with you and are affecting your home life or work, then talking to a counsellor such as myself might help you to cope with your problems and find a way to move forward. Acknowledging you need help to face issues head on, with a view to moving yourself to a better place, where life becomes more bearable, takes great strength and courage. It may be that you are facing a potentially life-changing decision, or simply feel that you are stuck in a rut, and again counselling can also be useful.

It can sometimes be difficult to completely open up to friends and relatives or work colleagues for fear of damaging relationships or compromising your career but I will provide a calm, unbiased and highly confidential space for you to talk about the problems in your life. I am professionally trained to help you explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviour openly without fear of being judged, looking at new angles and gaining new perspectives.

I am a qualified therapist, based in Flixton and I provide counselling services face-to-face to support adult clients of all ages.  I can help with issues affecting clients who may be dealing with life difficulties, including anxiety, stress, depression, relationship issues and low self esteem.

How I Work

Many clients say they do not know where to start when they come for counselling, so you are not alone in the way you feel.  I am here to listen to what you have to say but do not worry if you find it difficult to put things into words, you will not be expected to talk about anything until you are ready to do so. I believe that the best way to help you is to allow you to choose to explore your issues in a way that is most comfortable to you.

As a Person-centred counsellor, my style of counselling is non-directive. This means that I will not give you advice on how to solve your problems but rather, we will work together in a safe, accepting therapeutic space, where you will feel you are able to talk to me and I will facilitate you to find within yourself more positive ways of coping.

Please email me at counselling@diana.hattersley.co.uk or call me on 07845190364 and I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I am able to counsel wheelchair users in a downstairs room on request.
