I am an experienced, UKCP registered Psychotherapist and Counsellor.
My way of working is founded on existential and phenomenological approaches to therapy, centred on a person’s lived experience and enabling a particular kind of conversation about the things which matter to you and the difficulties that are pressing for attention. This makes a space for looking at feelings of confusion, anxiety, depression, grief, pointlessness, anger, loss of meaning - whatever it is that is causing distress - and for meeting what may presently feel stuck or impossible, or which may be threatening your sense of yourself.
Looking at how we live and make sense of things from a stance of openness and honest engagement offers opportunities for reaching a different understanding of ourselves, our relationships, and our life choices. This can be challenging and I provide a safe and confidential space for therapy to take place.
You may decide to come and see me for a short period over a number of weeks or for a longer period, depending on what is needed. Working on an open-ended basis means that you determine how long you wish to continue. I see people experiencing many differing, often enduring, problems and life struggles, and from widely diverse backgrounds.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have trained in Existential Psychotherapy at the School of Psychotherapy and Counselling Psychology, Regent’s College (Advanced Diploma in Existential Psychotherapy; Postgraduate Diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling) and in Person-Centred Counselling at the Institute of Education, University of London (Advanced Diploma in Counselling and Interpersonal Skills). I have also undertaken training at The Philadelphia Association. I hold my professional accreditation through the Society for Existential Analysis (SEA), a membership organisation within the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), and I abide by the UKCP’s Code of Ethics in my therapeutic practice.
Along with my private practice, I have worked in a number of NHS funded psychotherapy and community counselling settings, including with Mind counselling services in the London boroughs of Tower Hamlets, Brent and Richmond. I began working in counselling and psychotherapy more than fifteen years ago, following a first career as an Architect, working in social architecture and community housing.
