About me

When can Therapy help?

Each of us have encountered at some time in our lives where we have felt desperate and anxious with nowhere to turn.

Perhaps the anxiety and depression is caused by past traumatic experiences,  maybe you have relationship problems, past trauma or a feeling of confusion and loneliness that you just don't understand. You may be struggling with emotions and just can't find a way forward, perhaps encountered traumatic childhood issues or Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD) that continues to affect your life with situations that you find too big to bear or speak about, maybe simply lack direction or motivation.

Psychological therapy can help you find your own way forward by gaining a deeper understanding of your thoughts and emotions. I will aim to provide you with the skills and equipment to develop a more satisfying and resourceful way of dealing with your thoughts and behaviours enabling you to cope with emotions, thoughts, flashbacks and nightmares.

Through therapy you can learn to recognise patterns and negative beliefs that influence your moods, thoughts and behaviours. This awareness can help to ensure that you adopt more effective coping strategies for the future. Alternatively engaging in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) to process painful traumas and reduce the painful symptoms.

I offer confidential adult therapy (16+), regardless of your sexual orientation, cultural background, gender or outlook, either face to face or online and I can provide therapy for a range of problems including:

Depression
Generalised Anxiety Disorder
Stress and Worry
Panic Attacks
Divorce and Separation
Isolation and Loneliness
Lack of Confidence and self esteem
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Phobias
Relationship & Sexual Issues
Anger Management
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

These problems can be personally overwhelming and self limiting, which can affect your health and day to day wellbeing.

Therapeutic Environment
Throughout therapy the aim is to provide a confidential, supportive and trusted environment to enable you to explore your issues.

You will be supported as you gain positive thinking and a new perspective on your situation. You will not be given advice and most certainly will not be judged in any way.

You will be heard with respect and acceptance as you try to move forward at your own pace during painful and difficult issues.

With support and understanding your principles and decisions along with your right to make your own choices will be honoured as you resolve your particular problems.

Sessions are generally one hour per week for a mutually agreed period and depending on what type of therapy is involved, however according to your circumstances a flexible times can be adapted.

Training, qualifications & experience

BSc. (Hons) Degree in Psychology
Diploma in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, EMDR and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy  MBABCP., MBACP, Accred

I am a qualified Psychological Therapist with a private practice near Minehead, Somerset.  I have a BSc. (Hons) Degree in Psychology and Diplomas in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a evidence based therapy for a wide spectrum of conditions including anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, eating disorders, low self esteem and confidence, anger, sexual problems and phobias.

Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) is used for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and many other distressing memories such as trauma and abuse. EMDR utilises the natural healing ability of your body.  Eye movements similar to those experienced during rapid eye movement sleep (REM), will be recreated simply by asking you to follow the therapist's hand movement or light bar across your visual field. Experiences during a session may include changes in thoughts, images and feelings. This linking of related memories can lead to a dramatic and rapid improvement in in many aspects of your life, reducing dreams and flashbacks. I offer a discounted rate for Veterans

Both therapies are possible online if desired.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) for Veterans and Military suffering from post traumatic stress, childhood trauma (emotional, physical and sexual).

EMDR has proved to work extremely well with remote therapy online, especially in view of the Covid 19 enabling clients to work in the safety of your own homes, which can encourage clients with severe PTSD to engage with very delicate and painful memories.

ADULT AUTISM ASSESSMENT AND DIAGNOSIS (April2024) Recognised by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), Healthcare and Workplace. Assessment using ADOS-2 and ADI-r, recognised as Gold Standard.

The reason why these tools are considered Gold Standard.............

They have been rigorously developed, standardized and validated. Clinicians using these tools receive specialized training to ensure accurate administration and the combination of ADOS-2 and ADI-r allows for a comprehensive assessment, considering both observational and historical aspects.
