About me

I am a qualified  BACP counsellor and supervisor and have been practising for over 30 years; I provide individual counselling for adults and young people as well as couple or family sessions.

I specialise in relationship issues and trying to change patterns of behaviour which have become unhelpful over time. I often work with issues related to childhood trauma,  neurodiversity, separation and loss and for many years my work has included adults, young people and families affected by adoption.

I also offer parent-child sessions and parenting  strategies for parents with children with challenging behaviour including adoption, fostering and autism spectrum/mental health diagnoses.

I am trained in psychosynthesis counselling and supervision; the psychosynthesis approach explores how thoughts and feelings affect our emotional and physical wellbeing. It considers how past experiences and patterns of behaviour can impact the present and can prevent us from living life to the full. I also draw on other therapeutic approaches, including psychodynamic, family systems therapy, EMDR and CBT.

I offer a free telephone consultation for us to see whether I am the right person to work with you or whether I can assist you in finding appropriate support for you or a member of your family; please email to request this.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a postgraduate diploma in psychosynthesis counselling as well as a postgraduate diploma in the therapeutic application of the arts.  I also have a diploma in psychotherapy skills with children and adolescents and training in systems family therapy. I am currently completing EMDR training.

I am a qualified supervisor with a diploma in integrative supervision from the Psychosynthesis Trust.

I am a certified instructor and trainer in the Great Behaviour Breakdown (a parenting model similar to PACE) for parents of children with challenging behaviour). I am trained in Theraplay level 1 and DDP (dyadic developmental psychotherapy/parent-child attachment work) levels 1 & 2.

I am a trained CRUSE bereavement counsellor and have completed Mindfulness training.

I have worked with adults, teenagers and children and families for the past 30 years offering a wide range of therapeutic support on an individual and family basis. I have considerable experience in working with Looked After and Adopted Children and their families, usually commissioned by the local authority.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I hope to provide a warm, friendly, safe and relaxed counselling space where you can discuss what may be troubling you and preventing you from living life as you may want to.

I will work with you to explore unhelpful patterns of behaviour or process painful past experiences to bring these into awareness so there may be growth and change.

With regard to parent- child work, I offer you a model of parenting which aims to reduce parental and child stress and increase attachment and positive relationships.

I also offer training (The Great Behaviour Breakdown) and Parent-Child work which can be commissioned via Local Authorities and Companies; please send enquiries to: livelifeandloveparenting@gmail.com

Counselling can be short term or long term and we can agree and review this together. I would always recommend that we talk together before we first meet to see whether this form of counselling is right for you (or your family member) and to agree how we would work together.
