London Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Ltd

I am a qualified and experienced Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. My main approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). CBT is recommended by NICE guidelines for a wide range of problems, including anxiety and depression. I like to work in this way because I have found that CBT is very effective, and also enables clients to use the skills they learn in therapy in the future: becoming their own therapist.
When working with you, I will first help you to understand your difficulties, by getting to know your problem from your point of view, and also your goal in relation to this problem. We will then together break down the problem into different areas: your situation, your feelings about your situation, your physical symptoms of depression, anxiety or frustration, your thoughts and beliefs, and how you are currently behaving to deal with your situation. Then we will focus together on helping you to make any changes you need to make and ultimately to achieve your goals. This involves work in the session, but also usually some tasks in between sessions. These tasks are always agreed with you beforehand, and are always tasks that will help you to achieve your goal.
As well as using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. I use Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT). because REBT has a particular emphasis on self acceptance. I work with clients to build their self acceptance, while helping them to make constructive changes in their life and to reach their goals. We balance the desire to change, with an acceptance of where we are right now, which helps us to avoid getting frustrated with ourselves, along the journey. Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy also encourages us to look at the demands we make upon ourselves, and how we can be our own harshest critic. This is not always helpful to our personal self development. I will work with you to throw off the tyranny of 'musts and shoulds' in your every day life, and help you to develop some more helpful beliefs, that will improve your emotional well-being and can ultimately lead to you achieving your goals.
