Debra Allonby (RegMBACP) Counsellor, Supervisor, Together In Counselling
I am a qualified Counsellor, Supervisor and Registered Member of BACP. I have many years of counselling experience. We all experience difficulties at different times in our life that can be difficult to understand and hard to cope with. Whether you find yourself suffering from anxiety, depression, relationship issues, family issues, separation or divorce, panic disorders, post-natal depression, bereavement, affairs and betrayals, or feeling sad. I aim to help you to find ways to understand your situation and to explore ways to cope, accept or make necessary changes. I am a person-centred, integrative Counsellor, which means I utilise a wide variety of counselling skills during sessions, which we discuss and agree, to specifically meet your individual needs. I will offer you complete respect, support and positive regard without any judgement whatsoever. This helps you feel free to discuss whatever you choose in counselling, at your own pace, in a completely relaxed, unpressured and friendly environment.
You can telephone or text (number above), email me through the link at the top of this page, or contact me through my website (link also at top of this page), or through my Facebook Page (link above). I will arrange an initial appointment with you, which would take place in the centre of Rawtenstall (with parking outside). I can offer sessions during the day on Mondays and several evenings (5pm to 9pm) throughout the week. You are welcome to book just one session and try out counselling, with no obligation whatsoever to book any further sessions. I provide a safe, caring, friendly counselling service in complete confidence.
HOW OFTEN WILL SESSIONS TAKE PLACE?
I usually see my clients once a week and sessions last for 50 minutes each. However, some clients might initially wish to see me more frequently or for longer than 50 minutes - and occasionally they may want to have sessions less frequently. It really depends on the individual circumstances. I am very flexible and would wish to provide you with the service that you, as an individual or couple, need.
ON THE FIRST APPOINTMENT
I explain what counselling is all about and which counselling styles I offer (I am a person-centred, integrative counsellor). I will explain my training etc. I then complete a counselling contract with you, which is very straightforward. You can ask as many questions as you like in order to completely understand the process.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING COUNSELLING
You are free to talk about whatever you choose to. I will listen to you respectfully whilst aiming to completely understand, and I will help you to gently explore your situation. This can help you to see things much more clearly and find possible answers to your difficulties. Sometimes we need to find ways to feel comfortable with our situation or to accept things that we cannot change and counselling can help you begin to understand or come to terms with your situation. You may wish to make some changes in your life (whether big or small) and exploring your options in counselling can help you to identify which direction you might like to take.
I will never judge you and will offer you complete positive respect. I know it is hard to make the first step towards getting the help that you deserve but I will do all that I can to make you feel completely at ease. Please let me know about any help that you may need to make you feel comfortable. My counselling room is wheelchair accessible.
In terms of Couples Counselling, or Relationship Counselling, you will both be engaged in a contract. The Counselling will be based upon mutual respect between the Counsellor and both partners. The Counsellor will not take sides but will encourage the active listening, respect and consideration of each individual towards the other. Any relationship difficulties will be explored in a non-judgmental and respectful manner. Strengths, alongside difficult areas and agreed potential developments within the relationship, will be explored at your own pace.
I will work with you to help you provide the best possible counselling experience for your clients, whilst encouraging your own self-care and self-development. Your continued professional development is important to me and I will offer genuine warmth, kindness, caring and compassion, alongside alternative viewpoints where appropriate. I aim to help you to explore any difficulties you may experience in your client work so that we may work together to find alternative answers and ideas. I am experienced in adult, couples and children & young people counselling and I am also a qualified lecturer, trainer, assessor and verifier. I am always keen to update my own experience and qualifications and will aim to support you in every way that I possibly can.
