About me

Hello my name is Deborah. I am an integrative therapist which means I am trained in a number of different approaches. This gives me a choice of ways of helping you and adapt my approach to best meet your individual needs. I address a variety of client issues to help people identify the causes of problems; reduce symptoms; advance self-understanding; improve relationships and live more fully. I am compassionate and dedicated in supporting you to make changes and at the same time accept and value yourself. I offer an open, honest, non-judgmental approach, which allows expression and exploration. I will listen and help you to understand how past experiences, concerns about the future or issues surrounding self-confidence may affect your life now. Together we can reflect on how you respond to events in your life and begin to explore the way that you relate to yourself and others.

You may come to counselling because of difficult experiences you have been going through such as relationship breakdown; bereavement; abuse; post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); alcoholism; domestic violence; childhood related issues; redundancy; phobias; obsessions; disability or physical or emotional pain. Or you may want help with confidence; dealing with feelings of anger; sadness; guilt; jealousy; fear; anxiety; depression, stuck in an endless cycle; isolation or low self-worth. There are times when we all find it difficult to cope and need someone to talk to other than family and friends, someone who is impartial who will not judge or react unhelpfully. I will not tell you what to do but will help you to make your own decisions.

Counselling offers you a sense of being deeply understood to resolve conflicts that prevent you from enjoying your life and helps you to discover new perspectives, personal goals and ambitions. The key element of counselling is being able to safely share your difficult feelings and thoughts, where the skilled and knowledgeable counsellor listens in such a way that encourages you to explore the meaning behind your experiences, so that you may develop a better understanding of yourself and your life and feel more in control to make positive decisions.

After an initial appointment at my private practice in Romford or Dagenham, there is no obligation to continue if you decide not to. As Client and Therapist, we may make use of the supportive environment to explore the current difficulties for which you seek Integrative Therapy. I am qualified and experienced in many therapy approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT); Person Centred; Mindfulness; Psychodynamic; Humanistic; Gestalt; Transactional Analysis; Psychotherapy or Existentialism.

I will discuss confidentiality with you and address any questions you may have. We can see how well we work together. I welcome and respect people’s uniqueness and diversity, and respond respectively to each person’s circumstances.

Deborah is known for her strong commitment and dedication in helping people to reach their potential. She brings her personal humanity to her practice and life, which reflects qualities of compassion; empathy; courage; integrity and emotional resilience and trusts in people's potential, to heal and create new realities.

Testimonial

"I came to see Deborah when things in my life were not good. I was experiencing problems at work as well as problems with my personal life, and I felt anxious and low and didn't feel I was coping with life.

From the very first session I found Deborah a warm person and very easy to talk to. She allowed me to open up as and when I felt ready and talk about things that were clearly having an impact on my day to day life.

Deborah has never judged me or made me feel uncomfortable. Instead she has supported me and facilitated my journey.

Regular sessions, have helped me put positive thoughts in place of negative thoughts, and I firmly believe Deborah was instrumental in providing the tools that helped me to identify and adjust my behaviour patterns.

My recovery has been due to a number of factors, but I have no doubt that seeking help from Deborah was, and still is a major contributing factor.

I cannot thank Deborah enough, and would recommend her without hesitation. "

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
