About me

The thought of counselling can seem daunting. We all can experience times in our lives when things are difficult or when something is causing us stress, anxiety and worry, or perhaps when feeling a little stuck or lost in life's journey. Talking in confidence to somebody professional, accredited and experienced can help.

My practice provides a safe, trusting, honest and non-judgemental environment to which I am committed. This allows you the time and space to look at what is causing your concerns safely and ethically. I work with adults on a one to one basis both face to face and by telephone. My practice reaches across County Durham in different locations but welcome clients home visits in their home under certain circumstances. My commitment to practice reaches across week days, evenings and weekends and where available both face to face and telephone.

I strongly believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I have a warm and inviting collaborative approach to my practice which allows me to be enquiring and at times challenging in order to bring out the best possible outcome of client needs.

I am an NCS Accredited Registrant counsellor (National Counselling Society). I am bound by their code of ethics. My theoretical model of training is a person-centred approach. However, I integrate other models of therapy which can often include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) or psychodynamic concepts. I strongly value the influences of the humanistic and person-centred approaches as it is guided by the individual needs. As every client is individually unique, integrating models allows flexibility and freedom to best facilitate client needs.

I am committed to providing a safe, trusting, honest and non-judgemental therapeutic environment for my clients on a one to one basis. My approach does not just focus on the problem but also on what unused opportunities you may have. For example, the counselling will help to activate your unused potential.

I am also a mindfulness practitioner and may use various techniques like Mindfulness and stress management to help you with coping strategies where required or desired by the client.

In order to remain at a high ethical standard I attend regular supervision and carry out frequent continued professional development training in order to keep my skills and knowledge up to date.
