About me

Hello there and welcome to my profile.

My counselling journey began by having my own personal counselling back in 2005. I was finding life difficult and decided to seek help from a counsellor. I discovered in my sessions that my difficulties were due to past events and experiences. I found it so beneficial to have someone listen to me, support me and to help me make sense of myself and understand why past experiences were affecting me in the present. Over time my confidence and self-esteem improved greatly and I realised I wanted to help others because of my positive experience of counselling. This eventually led me to train and become a qualified counsellor and psychotherapist.

As a counsellor I am able to work with a wide range of issues. (A full list can be seen below). Even if you are feeling sad and you don’t know why, counselling can help. If face to face counselling is not suitable for you, for whatever reason, I also offer telephone counselling.

Counselling is about us building a therapeutic relationship, where I listen to you deeply and we work together, building up trust between us. I will provide you with a confidential, safe place for you to explore your issues or worries in a warm, genuine and non-judgmental way, no matter how big or small they may seem. I use a non- directive approach, which basically means that you decide what you talk about and when you feel ready to talk about it.

As a person-centred counsellor I believe that you are the expert on your own life or situation and you have the ability and resources within yourself to make your own decisions, or to come to your own solutions.

Through exploration together, it will help you to understand your thoughts, feelings and emotions, helping you to come to a deeper understanding of yourself and your issues. This will enable you to feel better in yourself, build self-esteem, self-confidence and empower you to be able to make informed choices and decisions that are right for you as an individual and to enable potential change in your life. Hopefully, over time you will be able to extend the 'tools' you learn beyond the counselling room.

Additionally to counselling I can also offer Reiki. This can aid your healing and recovery at a deeper level. There are more details further down the page, if this is something you may be interested in.

I understand that to make that first call or email for counselling can be extremely difficult, but I am sure that if you make that step it could potentially be the first step towards making positive changes in your life.

Our initial meet will be for you to decide if you feel comfortable working with me and for you to discuss your issues and what you would like to gain from counselling. I am happy to have an informal chat over the phone with you if you're feeling unsure.

I am also happy for you to make an enquiry or book an appointment via text message on 07514 534055

I am a registered member of the BACP and attend regular supervision, to ensure I practice effectively and professionally.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am also a level 3 Reiki Master. This enables me to tailor a session to suit your specific needs using a combination of counselling and Reiki.

Reiki is a natural healing therapy and works really well along side counselling. It can aid healing and recovery at a deep level, mentally, emotionally and physically.

Reiki can really help with many physical and emotional complaints and is particularly helpful with issues relating to Autism and ADHD, such as over thinking, feeling overwhelmed, burn out, being overly active, low self-esteem, lack of self-confidence, anger issues, mood swings, depression and anxiety.

Reiki works by using the natural life force energy around us. It’s non-evasive and  involves no touch. I direct the energy into you to help clear negative emotions, clear your busy mind and any past traumas etc.  If you would like to know more, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
