About me

I am a BACP Accredited Counsellor.

I offer counselling to Adults, Older Adults, Young People, Students (also Counselling Students), through long term, short term or open ended therapy. I practice as an Integrative Humanistic Counsellor, drawing from many theories and models in order to offer each client their own personal way of working through their issues. I have worked as a counsellor for over eleven years.

I specialise in working with young people, offering support at the point of their need. I take Confidentiality and Safeguarding very seriously and offer a safe and contained space in which all my clients can explore their issues and find new resources and ways in which to make their lives happier and more fulfilling.

I offer free, no-obligation Initial Assessments to all prospective clients.

I work via Online and Telephone sessions. I have worked face to face for many years, but have now decided as I will be moving location in about two years, to offer Online and Telephone counselling only.

I am covered by full Indemnity Insurance, take regular monthly/fortnightly supervision, depending on my case load. I am committed to ongoing Personal and Professional Development, and I have a current Enhanced Government Disclosure and Barring Certificate (DBS).

I have a 24 hour cancellation policy.

How Can Counselling Help You?

If you're experiencing anxiety, loss, bereavement, illness or any other issue that is making your day to day life difficult, speaking with a counsellor may be useful. During counselling you are able to express yourself honestly, without being judged. A counsellor is able to talk with you and help you find ways to deal with whatever is causing you upset. It is so empowering to be listened to and understood by someone who is completely impartial, and who has no desire to judge you, but instead, wishes to help you. Your information and issues are kept completely confidential.

What Will Happen At Our First Session?

My first session with clients is an Initial Assessment. This usually takes around 60 minutes and it's all about gathering information. I will tell you in detail how I work and I will ask you questions in order to get a comprehensive picture of who you are and what you need from counselling. I will discuss confidentiality and fees with you. You are able to ask me questions and discuss how I work, and then we can both make an educated decision about whether or not we wish to work together. If we are both happy to begin working together we will agree to do so and plan a way forward.

I consider each of my clients to be a unique person with unique needs, there is never a text book answer to working with clients, we are all looking for different answers to different issues.

I offer counselling through online sessions and telephone sessions, all of these mediums are secure, confidential and professional.

I am a friendly and warm person, I believe that the only way to gain trust and a good professional relationship, is to offer a safe, confidential and non-judgmental environment for every client, I am always ethical and follow the BACP's Ethical Framework for Good Practice.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
