David Stark MBACP (Reg)
I am an experienced counsellor/psychotherapist with a warm, approachable and down to earth manner. When not working in private practice, I am a member of the clinical team in the counselling service of a major London university.
How I work
In my work I aim to put you and your needs first, helping you to find a way through current difficulties. This may include exploring things that have happened in your past or concerns that you have about the future.
I work integratively, which means that I use different therapeutic techniques according to what is most appropriate for each individual. I work with clients from diverse backgrounds; from corporate professionals to students, young adults, people of different ethnic and racial backgrounds, as well as a range of sexual orientations and religious or spiritual beliefs.
I am experienced in working with clients facing a range of issues including anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, depression, loneliness and isolation, relationship issues, feeling a sense of difference, identity issues and anger management.
Please feel free to contact me to discuss what support you are seeking and what help I can offer.
What happens the first time we meet?
First appointments are always held in my comfortable therapy room, based in Clapham, London SW4. Initially you will have a chance to explain what problems or issues you are encountering and to tell me more about what kind of help you would like. I normally ask questions during a first appointment to find out more about you and what you would like help with. I also inquire about your history. You will have an opportunity to ask anything about me or the way I work that you would like to know. There is normally some admin to complete during the first session, sharing contact details etc. The first session is a chance for us both to decide if we want to work together. First appointments last an hour. Ongoing sessions last 50 minutes. All appointments are charged at £50 payable at the end of the appointment by cash or cheque.
Training, qualifications & experience
I successfully completed a BACP accredited training in counselling at the Mary Ward Centre in London. I qualified in 2012 with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Since then I have worked in a variety of settings including 2 years working for a bereavement service and over 4 years experience working in various university counselling services.
My training was Integrative. This means that I incorporate different therapeutic techniques based on the clients need. My practice includes techniques from the Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Transpersonal models as well as including CBT and mindfulness.
