Profile
I am a qualified and experienced, BACP-accredited, therapeutic counsellor.
I offer a confidential and safe space in which you can explore the issues which are causing you concern.
Who is counselling for?
Many people seek counselling because they are experiencing depression, anxiety, or other distress. This may have been triggered by a life event such as a loss, a relationship breakdown, or having been for too long in a stressful or abusive situation, or it may have no obvious single cause.
Other people seek counselling because they are confused about who they are and where they are going, and are looking for clarification and help in finding their direction.
In the safety of a non-judgmental relationship you can talk about things which in your ordinary life you may find too difficult to share. Over time you can come to see things in a new way, and explore possibilities for living life in a more resourceful and satisfying way.
Choosing a counsellor
It is important to choose a counsellor who is right for you. I have experience of working with a wide range of people both in my private practice and in my NHS work. I have learned to listen attentively and empathically to my clients, and to know that my job is not to provide you with answers but to be with you as you explore your issues and ultimately find your own answers.
I believe it is important for clients to have the opportunity to choose their counsellor. I will not be the right counsellor for everyone so, if after the first session you decide that I am not the right counsellor for you, I will refund half your fee.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
I trained at the University of East London, and gained my postgraduate diploma in therapeutic counselling in 2001.
After qualifying, I worked as an honorary counsellor in an NHS Primary Care counselling service in East London for 2 years. I then worked in private practice in London for a further 5 years.
I was granted accreditation by BACP (the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) in 2005
I moved to Somerset in late 2007.
Since early 2010 I have been working for the NHS Primary Care counselling service in Somerset and have a private practice alongside that, working in Nunney, near Frome, and Bruton.
I use ideas from different counselling approaches, to suit the needs of each client. My training includes humanistic, psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioural, and solution-focused approaches.
