About me

About me , a brief overview...

I have been working Therapeutically with people for 30 years and Counselling for 14 years. I like to work in a friendly informal way, and I care loads about my clients.

I work with most areas, but specialise in Relationship issues for Individuals and Couples. I like to mix talking for understanding and reflection, with practical guidance. From 30 years of working in the Self help arena, with some wonderful Teachers, I have gathered many lovely processes for moving things forward and help to make the breakthroughs in the areas of your life where you may be experiencing difficulty.

How I work

Its obviously different working with individuals and couples...

For Individuals, its more possible to go into deeper processes. It can be generalized by breaking it down into 3 areas..

Talking - helps to unjumble the big glob that it sometimes feels like when we get overwhelmed or stuck. It's lovely to express freely with no judgement then we can lay things out and start to get some perspective, and I help with insights, feedback and new approaches.

Management and action - We may discuss ways to help deal with tensions, tips in communication, or managing boundaries and space effectively. You may need help integrating parts that have been suppressed. I often give you some simple exercises to do between sessions, which i believe really supports the process of forward movement. Then we might review things and adapt.

Inner work - For individuals that want help in healing the past,  patterns of difficulty that keep arising and are difficult to move on, or for accessing the resources for a new direction. We may be affected by old belief systems that can benefit from gently challenging and updating, or carrying wounds from our past that are hard to shift. I help in finding the right processes to help you heal and move forward.

 For Couples and Families,

I help with all things to do with the challenges of Relationship- tensions, intimacy, communication, differences and difficult patterns of behaviour. For Couples, practical tools are particularly relevant. I often give useful tips on effective communication techniques and healthy boundaries. I'm there to help understand what's been happening, facilitate good, constructive conversations, and help create a new structure to move forward from.

Practical stuff

My sessions are for an hour and ten minutes, for me an hour isnt enough, the extra bit of time allows us to really get into things and get things moving.

I work from a quiet and cosy private room in Totnes.

I also work online, by zoom, or by phone.

I am available for daytime and evening sessions.

You set the pace and determine the frequency of sessions, and how many.

If you need to ask any more questions, to find out how things work, we can have a short, (15 mins) free confidential chat over the phone.  If you are ready to start working on stuff, we can do a full session straight away.

How much?

Individuals - £40

Couples£50-£60 depending on income

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
