About me

I am a Dublin born counsellor/psychotherapist and consultative supervisor with a private practice in Canton, Cardiff. I offer confidential one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy to adults (16+). My core therapeutic training is from a humanistic and integrative standpoint but my work is also influenced by psychodynamic, gestalt and CBT approaches. I have extensive experience in the field as prior to my move to Cardiff I had a successful private practice in Dublin. In addition to my private practice, I work as a NHS counsellor. In 2018, I graduated from the University of South Wales with a Post Graduate Diploma in Consultative Supervision.

As a therapist and supervisor, I believe in the healing power of talking to understand the issues and difficulties we face as human beings. This can be used to identify positive steps to enable greater self-acceptance and confidence to work through the concerns that are causing anxiety and distress. To do this, my aim is to create a safe and supportive environment in which we can explore experiences, thoughts and relationships which may have led or contributed to your present feelings. By addressing your concerns and working collaboratively, we can harness the potential inside all of us to understand ourselves and have greater self-acceptance.  I therefore see my work as a therapist as a collaboration in which I aim to support my clients in their struggle so that they can live life to its full and achieve the goals that are important to them.

I work with some of the UK's leading EAP (Employee Assistance Program) providers such as First Assist and Right Management.

I am a registered provider of psychotherapy with for healthcare companies including Aviva, BUPA, Pru Health and WPA.

I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & 028131_logo.jpgPsychotherapy (BACP) since 2012. I also have an extensive background of working with large corporate/global multinational businesses so I have an in depth understanding of the pressures of modern working life.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

I first met David when my wife suggested I spoke to someone with regards to some issues that we thought had stemmed from my being adopted.I was always apprehensive about speaking to 'a counsellor' but my first visit with David was very relaxed and from the moment I sat in front of him David made me feel very at ease with his calm and professional demeanour. After my initial visit I booked a further 6 sessions where David gradually deciphered where my demons lay. The sessions have changed the way that I look at stressful situations, it has made life so much more calm for me and my family.David conducts himself very professionally and has such a calm and peaceful manner that it is easy to discuss difficult issues. He just makes you feel comfortable and helps you to understand your issues.I can wholeheartedly recommend David's services

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
