Would you like to understand your feelings more? And be in a safe space to be able to express them? Counselling provides a space where emotions are welcome and you can share how you are truly feeling. You don't have to worry about what I'm thinking as I accept you the way you are without judging.
Sometimes when we don't express how we feel, especially whilst experiencing distressing situations, it's almost like we save it all up in a 'box' with the lid tightly shut. But just because we choose not to express these emotions doesn't mean they go away. That lid can open and suppressed emotions come bursting out in all kinds of ways such as anger, anxiety, panic attacks or depression.
I have extensive experience of working with adult and young clients to recognise feelings and express them appropriately. With an emotional 'vocabulary' we are able to communicate our feelings to others as and when we feel them. This means no more storing up of emotions making them more manageable. Also, when we express our emotional needs to others they will be in a better position to help meet them.
If you would like to try it out just get in touch and we can set up an initial appointment.
If you're wondering how long therapy takes there is no standard response - it's different for everyone. Some therapeutic movement usually takes place in 6-10 sessions, but it's difficult to generalise so the best judge of that will be you - you'll feel when you no longer need it...
"I am now coping better with my emotional responses to situations and communication with my partner has improved significantly because of my changed behaviour" -
"I feel much calmer and able to achieve a better work/life balance for me and my family."
"I have developed the ‘counsellor in me’ and feel capable of coping on my own now with the tools to self-soothe."
"Work has improved as I'm hitting all my targets and achieving standards my boss and colleagues didn't even know existed!"
THE PERSON-CENTRED COUNSELLING APPROACH
I work mainly in the person-centred approach at the heart of which is the concept that, given the right conditions, we all have the ability to fully tap into our potential. Our past experiences can cause us to lose this ability and by talking things through in counselling, our strength and self-love to strive for a more fulfilled life can be restored.
