About me

Welcome and I thank you for taking the time to read the following.

I would first like to mention that I appreciate how difficult it is to reach out for Counselling, or to even think about doing so, so your call will be treated with kind consideration.  Thank you.

The purpose of Counselling is to offer a person the opportunity to talk and think about what it is that is troubling them with confidence within a safe comfortable environment. For many people it can be the only space available where a person can genuinely be open and frank without fear.

Unfortunately for some, Counselling is usually approached as a last resort for dealing with the situation and so we may have decided to quite often soldier on, by keeping a stiff upper lip, never allowing even our closest friends or family to know how we are genuinely feeling, until it gets to the point where it feels too much to cope with.

Or perhaps we have discovered 'quick fixes' that temporarily submerge the anxiety in the hope that it won't return. Usually by this point it feels as though nothing more can be done and perhaps 'alone' you may be right......I believe together with Counselling we can do much more.

I am an experienced and qualified counsellor with private consulting rooms in Harlow and Sawbridgeworth. If you are thinking about seeing a counsellor, then please send me an email or give me a call, so we can arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time.

Thank you.

How Long?

Short term work can deal with a specific problem, although you may want to continue in longer open-ended work, to address long-standing emotional issues.

As we work together to achieve your goal the time period needed will become clearer.

How to choose a therapist

The determining factor is the relationship between client and counsellor. A counselling relationship has a responsibility to provide a safe, confidential space to build trust, so that a person can feel secure to explore painful and self-limiting issues.

It is very important to choose someone who is qualified.

The First Step

I recommend an evaluation session, where you will be able to talk about what it is that is troubling you. Together we can think about how it feels to work together, arrangements can then be made to start as soon as it is convenient.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
