About me

D. Paul Davies BSc (Hons) (Psych), BACP (accred).

Newid a Gobaith is the name Paul Davies uses to identify the services he offers as a therapist. Paul, who has lived in Wales all his life, chose the name because, translated from Welsh to English, means Change and Hope. These words are representative of his approach to counselling. He helps people find ways of taking control of inevitable or unavoidable changes in their life, or other difficulties that they present. This control can promote a more positive transition.  He values the belief ,that hope and change, realistically maintained and encouraged, can set a person on the road to a more fulfilling and satisfying life.

Paul is a psychological therapist and experienced accredited counsellor. His approach is understanding, non-judgemental, professional, supportive, and when required, directive and structured. His service is confidential to the highest level. Paul practices an integrative style of counselling which includes, when appropriate, CBT and Mindfulness. Paul is also a fully qualified and practicing EMDR psychotherapist and he offers this specialist psychotherapy in appropriate circumstances. He is also trained in, and provides, Psychosexual Therapy (see his website for details).

Therapy plans are structured exclusively for the individual in accordance with the person's personal needs. Paul has 30 years of experience in helping people across a broad range of issues.

He currently works solely in private practice having recently retired as a University Counsellor who provided counselling for students and staff. He has previously worked as Senior Counsellor within the Occupational Health department in local government and has been an associate lecturer teaching counselling skills. He provides Supervision for practicing and trainee counsellors.

The majority of counsellors refer to the individual attending counselling as a "client." To Paul you are not his client - you are a person.

Counselling appointments are conducted in a purpose-built timber cabin in a peaceful rural location at his home address.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
