About us

Counselling-in-Essex has been established for over 10 years and is based in South Benfleet. The founder (Nicola Butcher) is Senior Accredited with the National Counselling Society and registered with the BACP. All other counsellors are also qualified and registered with either the BACP and/or The National Counselling Society.

We all adhere to the code of ethics of the British Association for Counselling Psychotherapy and the National Counselling Society. This ensures that you are in safe hands and guarantees that each therapist is qualified to work and has achieved an excellent standard.

At counselling-in-essex we offer a safe, confidential and congruent service with a warm approach. Finding the right counsellor for you can often be a tenuous process but we believe in what we do and how we can help you. All of our counsellors are passionate about helping people reach their full potential, achieve their goals and head off on new journeys. We have all been on a personal journey which is why we choose to do what we do and why we can offer empathy and understanding that will challenge you to make the best out of therapy.

Our counsellors/psychotherapists

Nicola Butcher MBACP, MNCs (Senr.Acc)

Nicola Butcher is the founder of counselling-in-essex and has been practising for over 10 years. She specialises in autism, ADHD, aspergers and other areas within these diagnostics. She is a qualified psychotherapist and hypnotherapist.

Nicola also has extensive experience working with families helping them to develop positive relationships and also works with individuals suffering from stress and anxiety.

She works with children, adolescents, adults, families and couples.

Sarah Hearn MNCs (Acc)

Sarah can provide structure and realistic collaborative goal setting for you. She can also help to show you that it is possible to have control over your thoughts which may subsequently have an adverse effect on your feelings and behaviour.

Sarah has lots of experience to help give you the tools to help identify and change unhelpful or disruptive thoughts and actions, thus promoting the prospect of long term contentment with minimal chance of regression.

She works with adults.

Michelle Bradding

(Student Counsellor)

Michelle is currently undertaking her placement with us. She has gained over 100 hours of experience and will soon be qualified. She undertakes a variety of work. The areas of work where she is likely to specialise in are pain management, coping with diagnosis and abuse.

Michelle undertakes regular supervision and is showing great promise.

Alice Pepper

(Student Counsellor)

Alice is currently in placement. She has also gained over 100 hours of experience and will soon be qualified. She undertakes a variety of work. She has experience in working with adolescents and has good understanding of work related stress. Eating disorders are a particular area of counselling that Alice is interested in.

Counselling: £45 per session

Supervision: £40 per session

Couples: £50

Families: £60

Hypnotherapy: £60 per session

If you are on a low income you may be able to see one of our student counsellors at the rate of £10 per session. This will be dependent on your needs and requirements as to the level of experienced practitioner that you require.

Because we are a busy practice, it is often best to email us at nicola@counselling-in-essex.co.uk as our telephone goes to voicemail during sessions.

We also offer supervision to students and qualified counsellors. Both Nicola Butcher and Sarah Hearn undertake supervision.

All of our students and counsellors undergo regular supervision to ensure good quality practice and service.
