About us
Welcome to Counsel for Life. We are a BACP Accredited counselling agency based in South Woodford, E18 and close to transport links. We have been in operation since 1992 because we could see the need for high quality, affordable and easily accessible counselling in Woodford and the surrounding area. We are proud to have provided thousand of hours of counselling and therapeutic services and have supported hundreds of clients.
We are pleased that many of our ongoing referrals come via recommendations, a reflection of the high quality service we provide. Prioritising mental health has never been more critical than it is now. Modern living can take it's toll particularly after the coronavirus pandemic and current economical climate. While we all hope that we will be able to cope, if we are feeling low, anxious or distressed; sometimes coping just isn't enough. Counselling provides you with a supportive and confidential environment in which you can freely explore the difficulties that are affecting you.
Our vision is to enable people to embrace life more fully through the growth, changes and healing that can take place through the counselling process.
We offer a safe, confidential, private and professional service to individuals and couples over the age of 18 and we have a Financial Assistance Program that may be able to provide some limited support financially to individuals that may not be in a position to pay the full session fee.
Counsel for Life is a charity based on Christian values and seeks to provide counselling to individuals and couples of all religious faiths and those who have none.

Training, qualifications & experience
Our counsellors are all professionals, trained and qualified to at least Diploma level, and are accredited with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) or equivalent, or working towards accreditation.
All our counsellors are required to have regular and frequent professional supervision with a registered psychotherapist, and adhere to the BACP ethical framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We seek to provide a high-quality service which is as accessible as possible to everyone who needs it. Our availability is very good, usually with no waiting list; normally an introductory assessment appointment can be arranged within 10 days of our receiving a registration form.
Our fees are £65 for an assessment for individuals, and £55 for each weekly counselling session thereafter. For couples counselling, both assessment and counselling sessions cost £70 each. Typically a course of treatment will be for 6 to 12 sessions, but more may be required.
We are very aware that not everyone needing counselling will find it easy (or indeed possible) to afford the full fees. We currently have the ability to offer substantially reduced fees to provide support to those who are experiencing financial difficulty or can demonstrate they are on low incomes.
