About me

You will always be the one who knows the most about you. My work is to provide a confidential, compassionate, and perceptive presence to allow for the deepening of a relationship with yourself. Therapy provides an opportunity for self-discovery and personal growth that can include a chance to help heal from grief or trauma, find greater strength, improve relationships, and feel happier and more authentically yourself.

If you are feeling low, sad, helpless, hopeless, angry, unheard, overwhelmed, confused (and the list can and does go on) - whatever you are struggling with, there is potential for relief. I have helped many clients discover deeper internal resources, greater self-acceptance, and the capacity to make meaningful changes in relationships and living circumstances, even if they could not, at first, see the possibilities. These life changes were brought about naturally through changes from within.

Therapy can be challenging, but it can also be rewarding, and sometimes even fun. Within my practice I offer an opportunity for you to use creative expression, if you choose. Examples of material we might discuss or examine could include dreams, creative writing, artwork, photographs, metaphors, stories, or even your imagined experiences from short meditations. All of these can allow you to access new visions of your life. None of them are required, however. It is equally as helpful, if it is better for you, that we simply speak together about things.

At the heart of my practice is a prizing of the individual, an acceptance of and respect for the path that is right for you. This path is unique for each person. I firmly believe that each of us, given enough support and care, can grow into our happiest, best selves, and find at least some healing and solace, even through very difficult times. I truly feel that it is never too late to learn and grow inside oneself, or too late to heal something, at the very least within one's own heart.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am fully qualified, with a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and have years of additional training and practice in complementary therapies. I am insured and a member of the BACP, adhering to their ethical guidelines.  I have experience counselling individuals at a university counselling service and a domestic abuse and community centre as well as currently being employed by an NHS provider. I can work with you in short or long term therapy.

In addition to individual counselling I also co-facilitate weekend retreats.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I believe in working with the whole person, so I don't list here that I work with 'personality disorders' (I work with people). However, if you have been diagnosed with a personality disorder and would like to work within this framework I am capable of doing so.
