About us

Clydesdale Counselling and Human Development Project (CCHDP) is a registered Scottish charity founded in 1994 providing counselling and psychotherapy from our dedicated offices in Carluke. Our counsellors are experienced professionals, trained in Person Centred Therapy, a humanistic approach to therapy which aims to create a strong therapeutic relationship characterised by empathy, acceptance and authenticity enabling individuals to work at their own pace to explore the circumstances which have brought them to seek counselling.

The decision to seek counselling or therapy can be a difficult one sometimes brought about by personal challenges, bereavement, relationship breakdown or adverse life circumstances. It may be that the individual has experienced traumatic situation which has overwhelmed their usual coping strategies or is supporting family members with their own challenges. For others changes in physical or mental health might lead them to seek professional support, or they may have received a formal mental health diagnosis, eg depression, anxiety, PTSD

For some people coming for counselling is part of their on going process of self care, with sessions giving space and time for connection and self reflection which may be difficult to find amidst the busyness of life.

Whatever has brought you to counselling, we aim to offer you a deeply accepting relationship where you will be supported to speak openly about your concerns with a trained professional who can help you gain clarity and greater awareness about what you need in your circumstances.

We support people with a wide range of issues, including:

• Depression / Anxiety / Panic / Phobia
• Post Traumatic Stress
• Stress / Debt / Unemployment / Redundancy

• Sexual / Physical Abuse
• Bereavement / Loss
• Eating Disorders
• Relationship Issues / Difficulties

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

We have verified that at least one professional at this organisation is registered with the relevant professional body.
